For those lucky to have both for the wii...what would you recommend for a party game between these 2 of you can only pick one? They both look pretty fun but I dont know if I can justify both...

all depends if you like the previous monkey ball games..

for a party game, rayman is a bit better in my opinion. But if time is not of the essence, probably wait for wario ware to come out :)

Monkey Ball benifits from having a deeper single player, but Rayman is easier for quick pickup and play style gaming.

Some of the Minigames in Monkey Ball are hit and miss.

A lot (60%) of Rayman's minigames are alternating turns. Which can be a plus (allows 4 players with one controller), or minus (not as much simutanious multiplayer games.)

Just an update...i'm not into single player modes at all..and I've never played any of the 2 before..I'm actually not a gamer and never bought a console before...this is more when I have friends and family over...

thanks for the tips so far

My brother in law is an avid gamer and nintendo fan. He picked up monkey ball, but ended up trading it for another game. The minigames are less hit and more miss. The good ones are pretty good, but it's maybe a handfull. Alot of the games are painful to play, controls don't work very well, but have the right idea. We've been playing rayman, and it's been pretty good. Need to work on the multiplayer though. Seems you need to unlock the minigames in single player mode first.

rayman
I ended up selling my copy of monkey ball...the controls for majority of the mini-games are horrible. I was deciding between rayman and monkey ball too, i made the wrong choice. Defintely get rayman over monkey ball

I ended up selling my copy of monkey ball...the controls for majority of the mini-games are horrible. I was deciding between rayman and monkey ball too, i made the wrong choice. Defintely get rayman over monkey ballWith this and the other post, I think I have to defend Monkey Ball a bit.

One thing with Rayman is that while the minigames are that much more accessable and more entertaining at first sight, they overlap quite a bit (Workout, which consist of 15+ games, are the same motion, with a different background for all of them). It will seem like an ideal multiplayer game at first, and even though I have the game, I question how much more can I go back to the same game until I get the feeling of boredom.

Monkey Ball's multiplayer game is definitly hit and miss, and most of them are either a) boring or b) uncontrollable. However, there are a few gems that really make the game shine: Such as:

Home Run Derby
Fencing
Hurdle Race
Monkey Boxer
Monkey Darts
Monkey Snowboard
Monkey Squash
Monkey Wars
Number Ball
Red Light/Green Light
Simon Says
Monkey Golf
Monkey Bowling
Monkey Race
Monkey Billards

The problem with many of these is either a) They overlap with Wii Sports already, or b) are just too simplistic. The best game that I've been going back to over and over, however, is Monkey Darts.

I own both and have to say in a party, Monkey Ball is the way to go.
The downfall of Rayman is you have to have played a lot in single player to unlock the games for multiplayer. Also, I find it more fun to play with numerous ppl at the same time instead of taking turns.
While both games have great minigames, I'd have to say Monkey Ball is the better multiplayer game to play with more ppl.

well just gave rayman a spin...i'd have to say it was ok...but then again it was cuz I spent friggn' the last 3hrs trying to unlock the stuff so that I can play multiplayer...and after 3 hrs or so i'm only 50% through..some of the stuff were cool....my wrist kills from playing with my wii :)

I don't know about you guys..but I HATED the bathroom stall one where u slam the door on them...I suck at that...takes me forever..

well that's probably it for me and games for awhile...Bowling on wii sports is awesome!

The downfall of Rayman is you have to have played a lot in single player to unlock the games for multiplayer.

For those who are picking up Rayman, I highly recommend going to Wiisave to download a save file from someone who has completed the game...

http://www.wiisave.com/index.php?cid=44

It takes 3 minutes to copy the file onto your console:
- Pop in your disc and open Rayman so it creates a save file for the game
- Go back out of the game, enter the Wii menu and into data management for the console, delete the Rayman save file
- Pop in the SD card containing the downloaded file, go to the SD card section of the Wii data management menu; copy the downloaded Rayman save file onto the console
- All games in score (multiplayer) mode are now unlocked!

You can start your own profile if you want to play story (single player) mode from scratch. The multiplayer games will still be unlocked.

For a party game, my vote is for Rayman as well. Monkey Ball's mini games are pretty mediocre. Some of them take forever to complete as well, which doesn't make for a good party game when there are more than 4 people.

I would say over half of the mini games in Rayman are well done, including almost all of the ones that are simultaneous multiplayer. The games are quick, so if there are more than four people, you don't have to sit out for long stretches of time while others are playing.

For Rayman, I'd recommend having 4 sets of remotes/nunchuks. The simultaneous multiplayer games that use both controllers are the most fun. It's actually more entertaining to watch 4 ppl playing the cow milking game than playing it yourself. :D

Thanks! I will check it out.. single mode is dreadful (first post using the wii)

BTW there are more than 1 file in the link above. This is the file I am using and it works well...

I think when you replace your current save file with the downloaded one, you'll have lost your progress in single player mode.

I'm trying to transfer a downloaded save file from my computer to SD. I don't have a specific SD reader though, only my digital camera. Any way to transfer this to my SD through my digicam (Canon SD630)?

All the important games should be unlocked. Let us know if you find a better save file.

You guys need a save file with all the main games unlocked? I have one.

Haven't unlocked all the challenges yet (which are just the games chained together.)

Guys...thanks for helping me make a good decision.

You guys convinced me to get rayman. After getting it, I was disappointed after a day since I was just playing by myself to clear the levels and I only have 1 nunchuk. I was trying to find my receipt to hopefully return it. I didn't see too much potential in this game but this game is soo much more fun with a little alcohol in the system and with more than 1 player with a nunchuk. I don't have a 2nd nunchuk yet but I can see how it would be really fun now. I'm glad I made the purchase!!

Thanks!

I played Monkey Ball with my friends at my new years party on the 31st/1st, and I have to say my opinion of it really improved. I still prefer Rayman, but Monkey Ball is not to be underestimated either.

I've never played monkey ball...is it basically like those labyrinth games? So you're tilting the wiimote as such to control the marble down narrow paths?

Yes and no. There are also 50 "Mini-games" that plays out like Rayman's minigames. Baseball, Golf, Darts, etc...

Too bad Monkey Soccer and Monkey Tennis didn't make a return.

I liked Monkey Bowling :P

But the physics of it are quite different from Wii Sports.
