This is more of a rant more than anything, but I swear I'll never buy another set of Logitech speakers.
Years ago, i had a 4.1 set of Logitech speakers, i believe they were the S80 or something, blue speakers, the sub was tall and roundish. Under 1 year of use, the subwoofer dies. All the speakers are all still fine, i kept it the way it was, and the speakers seemed like they just routed through the sub perfectly fine. Just no bass .. but oh well ...
Didn't realize i could have called Logitech about the problem to get it warranteed.
Years later, i purchase the Logitech z2200. used it for a short period of time (less than 3months), and then suddenly used them again recently, and the subwoofer is shot ... again. The connection ont he sub to the left speaker seems like it doesn't have a very good connection since i hear crackling sounds to whichever speaker i plug into that connector. The sub is constantly making popping sounds too. All this occurs without the system being plugged into a source, as well as while playing from a source (PS2 and Macbook).
With my luck, these speakers have been over the 2 yr warrantee period for 3 or 4 months.

Yeah this is a common problem with 4.1 and higher computer speakers. I lost a sub the same way because the amp couldn't cool itself efficiently. Anyway, Logitech subs now have heatsinks built into them so overheating may not be such a problem for them anymore. Since you have speakers left over, why don't you consider picking up an entry level receiver and a cheap sub? This setup will own any computer speaker setup easily.

sorry, i forgot to mention the z2200 were a 2.1 system, and yup, the sub had a heat sink on the back too ... seems rather disappointing
i really liked the look of the speakers in this set so i'd like to keep the speakers. However, i'm not a big on audio so i'm not quite sure what to look for. Purchasing a receiver and sub sounds pricey? that's probably going to cost me quite a bit .. if that's the case i think i'd rather spend my money on a set of the Harman Kardon Soundsticks :P
do you have recommendations for a receiver/sub combo? seems to be overkill though to buy new stuff to use with a pair of salvaged speakers .. hehe
is there anyway to get Logitech to .......... do something about this? even though it's out of warranty .....

You could always just get an amplifier?
Sonic T-Amp is fairly popular

Wow that is disappointing lol. Anyway, a receiver/sub combo is only worthwhile depending on how powerful you want your setup to be. I used to own a pretty powerful setup and when the sub died, nothing on the market that I could afford was on par with what I had. I didn't want to fork out $500+tax for something comparable either (and at the risk of another sub dying), so what I did was buy a used receiver on BST and an 8" home theater sub and the entire thing costed me about $270. In the end I saved $300 dollars and have a setup that will easily trump the $500 dollar one. :D
Anyway, no recommendations on a combo as I purchased these seperately, but definately look for a receiver with a lower frequency range so that you get better clarity. Logitech currently does something in the 35hz range, so anything lower than that will sound better.
As for Logitech warranty, give them a call. At this point you have nothing to lose except the possibility of something to gain. They're pretty good with their customers and they might be leniant towards 3-4 months. Or you can lie about it and say it's still within warranty lol? Your call on that one.
Good luck!

just an update to the Logitech issue this thread was about:
I emailed Logitech back and forth and what their rep has said is that they're willing to replace my speaker system with the z2300 which is the replacement model of my z2200. The only catch is that I've gotta send my subwoofer and the remote that goes with it, back to them. I've got absolutely no problems with that ... except ... it doesn't seem like they're paying for the shipping of the unit to go back. They will pay for the shipping of the replacement though however.
The monster sized subwoofer weighs a tonne and is huge in size. Shipping something of that size and weight will cost a fortune, and not to mention that they're asking for it to be shipped back to the US. Once it crosses borders, the shipping fees will sky rocket!
Anyways, i just noticed that the z2300 were on sale at Dell for $120 ($20 off the regular price of $140). I mean, i'd probably be better off buying that new set of z2300 for $120 than to have to send my own speakers back to logitech. At least this way, i'll technically have 2 sets of speakers ..
Not to mention, i doubt i'd ever purchase another set of logitech speakers.
/end rant

Strange. I spoke with a CSR regarding my Z2200's, and they didnt' ask for anything to be sent back. They just wanted proof of purchase for warranty period check so I faxed that off. Maybe because your's were out of warranty?
I can see how shipping that would be expensive, especially cross border.

yes, they asked for proof of purchase.
I couldn't provide them with it because i don't have the receipt.
These were sent to me as a gift. They came from Futureshop, and i still have the packing slip that came along with the box. Logitech refused to consider the packing slip as a proof of purchase ..
I guess they want the proof of purchase just to verify that you indeed purchased the product and it wasn't stolen or something and possibly to verify the date to make sure it's still under warranty ??
All of that can be verified with the packing slip, no? Anyways they didn't offer an explanation for not accepting the packing slip and they said if i can't provide proof of purchase, and i'm not willing to pay a fortune to send it back, then they'll just have to cancel the RMA.
Funny thing was, not once was anything mentioned about the system being in or out of warranty. Since these were out of warranty (supposedly), if i mailed it back to them, i believe they'd still send me a replacement. Sad thing is they were telling me that there have/had been many issues with this system and they're willing to replace them.
Of all the places that i've done warranty replacements (Microsoft and Nintendo), Logitech has been the least flexible. The other 2 companies asked for items back but they sent the replacement along with prepaid packaging for me to send my defective product back. And before they send the boxes to me, I give them my credit card (to make sure i dont scam them).
