I recently purchased a Dell computer with a DVD burner (I requested a DL burner). DVDInfoPro tells me it's a PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 . DVDInfoPro also says it will write DVD +R DL but there are no outward indications that it will burn DL discs.

I am used to seeing +R or -R or +/- R somewhere on the front facing of the burner but I'm new to DL and I'm not sure whether to take DVDInfoPro's info as correct. If anyone has this model of burner, I'd appreciate your feedback. :)

Well DVDinfopro is usually right. It will burn DVD+R DL discs.

Here is the official info on it http://support2.jp.dell.com/docs/storage/P112120/en/specs.htm

Apparently someone had success flashing it to a Benq 1650 so I assume its just a rebadge. Good luck.

Thanks! I was unsure about DVDInfopro, especially given that there is no written indication anywhere on the burner. Dell's invoice/list of specs that came with the computer are in Dell's usual heiroglyphics! :D

I'm pretty sure all current dvd burners are DL capable.
