Is there only 1 HD box (non-pvr) available from Rogers? I have the 3250HD box, but it only has component out, does anyone know if there is a Rogers box that has HDMI output?

Sorry, what I said was a little confusing. I mean is there another non-pvr box from Rogers that had HDMI output?

Only the HD-PVR has HDMI, you need a HDMI-DVI cable or adapter. Unless you can find Rogers Pace HD box, they were available for a short time, could'nt get one myself, it has HDMI and is non-PVR.

Note that Rogers doesn't support HDMI on its HD boxes. It only supports component. However, you can still use HDMI but any issues you have (and I'm sure you'll have some) you will have to figure out on your own. Check digitalhomecanada forums.

Thanks guys.

Got a question about the 3250. Does anyone have the loop through model? Is it better or worse than the standard model? The difference i see in the boxes is that the standard model has these 'future use' fire wire connections and a cable tv out port. The loop however has a componet in, so it's like you don't lose a componet input for your tv cause when the box is off it is bypassed.

any comments?

Roger also carries the Pace DC551HD Non-DVR cable box which has the HDMI input you are looking for but some people are reporting they are not getting some channels with this box, more specifically the two PBSHD and ScoreHD channels.

You can go over to Digitalhomecanada where they have a huge thread about this box.

I have the 3250HD and the 8300HD. The 3250HD actually has better video quality then the PVR. You should be able to use the 3250HD with a HDMI to DVI cable. On both units I noticed HDMI/DVI looks noticeable better then component. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. Also from my experience and everyone else Ive talked to 1080i looks better then 720p, but try both and compare.

Yup, I have the Pace box, which does have HDMI, but apparently you'll have to search for the box in order to get one.
And I was also having this problem for months, however, this past week, Rogers seemed to have fixed it (for me atleast).

The firmware was updated on the box this week (as were all the other boxes) in certain areas. The new firmware seems to allow HD-PBS and the other once blocked channels through. I am still having some difficulties with the output of my Pace 551 (since upgrades occurred), but I will resolve them soon.

Has anyone tried the loop-thru model of the 3250? is the quality the same? I'm thinking of switching to it cause it has a componet in on the box, which is good cause it's like i'm not losing a component input by having the box.

Thanks, those are the settings I'm using now with my 8300HD, HDMI w/ 1080i.

I started use the DVI/HDMI cable recently after using Component on 3250HD for a year. Main differences being the non-HD channels seems better than before. HD channels are about the same.

Don't know if its related, but I have experienced several crashes on the box since then.

I also swapped my old remote with the new one at rogers. The channel surfing buttons have way better responsiveness than before.

Rogers has 2 HD boxes
the 3250 which you have with DVI (use the DVI to HDMI adapter)
and the old 3200 which ONLY has component (no hdmi nor dvi)
the HD PVR 8300 has HDMI

I am verifying that the Pace 551 is fully operational in all aspects since the upgrade. This box is superior to the 3250 because it has more memory, and a faster processor. Plus that it has a pass through feature which works with component as well. The box seems to respond faster to commands and has the ability to memorize settings for picture types so you don't have to constantly stretch/shrink the picture.

So, Rogers offers a 3100 HD (not very common) a 3250 HD (DVI only and very common) and a Pace 551 with HDMI (not common in alll areas due to HD PBS not funtioning properly, until now).

IMHO, the Pace picture quality is the best over anything SA offers. This doesn't stand true for the SD only boxes though.

Thanks guys. So, I've decided to stick with the 3250. Has anyone tried the loop-thru model of the 3250 or knows anyone with it? is the quality the same? I'm thinking of switching to it cause it has a componet input on the box, which is good when the box is off the input bypasses the box. Also, anyone know if this box is offered in ontario?

That's because except for FOX (720p) most HD channels are in 1080i. Why have your box do a crappy conversion on your source data?

can any HD gurus confirm if the 3250 needs to be 'activated"? why do we need to call in and register the SN (this is what i've heard) ...
if one already has a basic cable subscription (where there are at least a dozen channels already broadcasting intermittent HD programmin), can the 3250 be hooked up and be able to view the programming? this obviously takes into account that one has HD-ready display and the 3250 is basically being used as an ATSC tuner to decode the HD signals...

further, is Rogers broadcasting HD content already on their cable line-ups?

I recommend switching from 3250 to PACE 551, much better picture through HDMI.

hey guys, i need some help.
I've got the Pace 551HD box from Rogers and the HDMI has been working fine until today all of a sudden an error shows up (with the channel sounds though) that says "your tv does not support HDCP, please use component cable"
something like that...

I've got the early Samsung 40" 1080p lcd, im sure it has hdcp and it was working fine before. Any idea how I can fix it? If i leave the screen on it will not work.

Are there any Pace HD boxes out there? I just called about...5 or 6 stores and nobody seems to have them in stock. Has anyone heard if they'll be getting any more in?
