My daughter (age 6) was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I have been looking all over the web for more and more info and was wondering if there are any other parents or peolpe on this board who might know of some good websites.
I find it hard to read through so much stuff on it and would like to have some recommendations on placed to get good, valid information, like on how to deal with the school, etc.

Thanks in advance for your info,

What kind of information in particular are you looking for? We have 2 ADHD'ers and I have ton's of experience dealing with IEP's (individual education plans) and IPRC's (identification and placement review committees) with ADHD'ers.

Was she diagnosed by a specialist? Just to let you know that a lot of kids (my son included) were diagnosed with ADHD, but turned out to have Asperger's Syndrome, which is commonly misdiagnosed as ADHD. We knew that he wasn't ADHD, yet his school kept insisting that he was.

Yes please tell me it wasnt through school. We went through the same thing with our 6 year old. The end result is stay your course, and let a true professional decide. Teachers especially at that level are not geared to offer such educated opinions.

no, she was assessed by a psychologist. She had 7 sessions with the psych before he made his diagnosis. This was back in January. We have also had her to the pediatrician many times since then as well. Her meds work wonders.

Meds can be a great thing when they work properly. :) Now is the time to start thinking about getting an IEP in place or revising the current IEP.

Also, remember that each med will have some serious and some mild side effects...(varies with eACH PERSON..) which can last forever or subside after a few weeks...keep an eye for that... kids may not know how to express it..so parents will need to look into that..

As many as 50% of ADHD sufferers could be improved/cured by a tonsillectomy? Crazy sounding, but sleep deprivation could be the cause....

We spent a lot of time on this site and user forum when our son was younger. Not sure how active it is now but may be worth a look.
