HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series "A Song of Fire & Ice" into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
The series will begin with the 1996 first book, "A Game of Thrones," and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes
For all of you fantasy readers, you'll quickly understand that this could be the best epic series ever brought to the screen. GRRM's fantasy series is well known as being one of the most vivid and well written epics rivaling and sometimes surpassing Tolkein.
If you haven't read this series, do it now. Each book is quite large but you'll soon see that "A Song of Fire & Ice" is probably the best fantasy series written to date.
With HBO backing this series with their full funding and support (think Band of Brothers) this has the chance to overthrow and take the fantasy crown for LOTR.
