My IL's are West Indian I am Eurasian. Quite a few differences between them and my family.
I would think the one that left the biggest impression on me was my MILs constant urging to give the babies 'sugar water'. I exclusively breast fed until the dd's were 6 months old each, and every time I saw her she insisted on a bottle of sugar water.
I see what sugar does to my kids now at 5, 8 and 10...can you imagine and infant????

One of my co-workers announced today that his wife is pregnant again, they had their first kid in early December.

don't know anything about these sort of 'folklore'..but I was thinking more along the lines of gender determination based on foetal movement, and 'riding high' or 'riding low'. Sowwie >:(

When the baby would sleep days but awake during the night, just flip the baby over gently on your arm.

My GF works in a daycare and they hear success stories about it all the time. The nurses at the hospital even mentioned it to us. :)

While Dr, Phil isn't an old wife ...I think this maxim of his pretty much covers it all when it comes to marriage and parenting and kids ...
" IF MAMA AIN'T HAPPY, AIN'T NOBODY HAPPY."
....good rule for kids and hubby to live by IMO.

My mom told me if the mother eats shrimp while she's pregnant, the baby will have skin problems.

That reminds me of the eating strawberries while pregnant and scratching somewhere will end up with the baby having a birthmark in that spot!
