i have about 30 (mostly compaqs) computers, all missing parts. no hard drives, no memory, etc....but the mobo and cpu are there, as well as the case, PS, CDROM, etc.
what are my options for these? are they worth anything to anyone? or if i give them away, would schools/hospitals want them?

Yeah...Strip the computers, then sell it.
But i'm guessing if you have thirty of them, they're probably not that modern. Give it try...good luck!
Or you can try contacting a charity, that would be a good idea.

I recommend trying to build several machines from all the spare parts. What you do with them is up to you.
You can go with charity, or you can run cancer research with one of the grid organizations.

Another option is to try Freecycle.org..........pretty sure someone will snatch it up.
However, I have heard that some people on Freecycle pick up stuff and re-sell them. Which isn't cool.
