I use their prepaid as well. I like their website and I've spoken to customer service by phone a few times and they were pretty nice to me.

the only thing with virgin is that they've been slowly increasing their rates lately and how they charge people. you might want to look into that.

it's been pleasant so far. I like that there is no additional fee for voicemail/system access/911/call display, it's all included in the monthly cost in the M plan.

Stick with a GSM provider. If your looking for prepaid check out 7-eleven speakout or Petro Canada Wireless.

Virgin rocks, I only pay $10 a month just for service, and .10c a minute that gets withdrawn from whatevers in my account. You get free call display, call waiting, and voice mail. No stupid service 8 dollar fee or 911 charge. 15c to send a text msg. I've never had a dropped call. Phone was only 60 bucks, nothing special but does the job well. LG vx3300.

I have never experienced any problems with them. Their plans are affordable and you can switch from one to another anytime. Plus they have a sense of humor ("please hold while we direct you to a warm, cuddly, real, LIVE person" XD).

Called them twice today to switch over from Telus

1st time, I was on hold for 15" (put on speaker, went to the washroom, comes out and the music was still on) I have to turn the phone off to head out

2nd time, right now, 10 minutes and counting, not terribly impressed so far, it;s Monday night it can't be that busy can it ?

Maybe because of the number portability thing, i will hang in for a bit more in the name of saving some bucks ;-)

I just spoke to a Virgin Mobile rep and basically I have to get a new Virgin Mobile phone

I was with Telus before and am under the impressions that Telus phone can be used on Virgin Mobile's network since they both use CDMA ?

And they do monthly pre-paid so essentially we just need to top up when we run out of credits. That's cool, no more bills to pay

CDMA = Each provider has their own phones you must use
GSM = You take your phone with you

I didn't have time to do the 'research' to switch to Virgin on Mar 14th, and now the RAZR V3C is $249... oh you DO get one month free ($20) which is basically barely worth the inevitable hours I'll spend on the phone getting everything set up... but if they brought back that "pick your phone and get that much back in service credit" deal from the 14th of March, I'd be there in a second.

Anyone have any info on other Virgin deals over the years, that might indicate similar savings? I can wait a few months if it means getting a free phone... but not TOO many months.

How about going for the $0/month plan. How do I go about getting that? No one ever calls me and I hardly ever call anyone. So I just get a prepaid card and then select that plan and that's it?

I'm actually going to do the opposite. Rogers' CSR are so unfriendly and you have to prove your innocence everytime (NO, i'm NOT on a contract.... yes you are... NO i'm not)

Also, Rogers' Pay as You Go, the CSR just told me, if someone leaves you a voicemail, that counts as airtime !! That's right, i'm not talking if you use your cell phone to check your voicemail. This is when someone leaves you a message.

So if they leave a long, long message (forgot the max), then they will keep on using your minutes without you knowing (until later). That is wacked !!

When you do activation online or in person, chose the "S" plan.
You get a free $10 credit when you activate a new phone.
The plan doesnt have a monthly fee, just a $0.25/min.
You can buy top up credits from many retailers or you can use credit card.

I left Rogers 3 yrs ago because of cost and their CSRs, yes, sometime the Virgin line might be busy but ppl there make you feel like a valued customer and I mean nowadays goods and services are so similar , services is the deciding factor for a purchase.....I have no regret at all switching to Virgin on the 14th and am enjoying my free Razer that worth $ 249..

i have worked for VM in the past, and i can say that they value the customers very much, and all the CSRs are all very lively, well-trained and very polite to customers (VM has even won awards for customer service).

i didn't use VM service at the time though, but it's only because i didn't like their phone selection. but this only down side has since changed, and i would've used their service if i didn't sign a contract with the dreaded rogers.

the other areas were awesome, such as no BS SAF and activation+SIM card fees (partly due to CDMA phones don't have SIM cards).

all in all, as an ex-insider, i have nothing but good to say about VM, it is almost the perfect choice for fellow RFD-ers.

and as an aside...damn...y was i off when pamela anderson came
