Hey guys, I don't know that much about monitors and I was hoping you guys can help me out.

Which monitor is better for video quality/gaming?

LG204WT from futureshop http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10075693&catid=22335&logon=&langid=EN

or

the 20 inch ultrasharp 2007FP from dell?

is the LG204WT more comparable to the E207WFP?

Which would you guys recommend?

Thanks for your help!

Can't really vouch for any one of them since I haven't used them but if you do a little bit of research about panels, you'll find the LG204WT and E207WFP both use TN panels. These are generally better for gaming as they provide fast response times. They're also cheap to produce.

The 2007WFP uses S-IPS/S-PVA panels which provides better colour reproduction and have better viewing angles. These are probably better for watching movies and working with graphics (Photoshop and the like).

If you're more into gaming then I'd probably suggest the LG204WT. I've read that it's a pretty good LCD in terms of colours and gaming. If you're serious about graphics and want the extra inputs (S-Video, composite) then grab a Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP (I bought one from Dell's Days of Deals :)).

Take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm by no means an expert on this topic but I just thought I'd offer my input.

EDIT: If you go to http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=40 (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/) and do a little search, you can find posts of the different LCDs with pictures and compare them yourself.

seriously? i was gonna get the LG monitor because of its high contract... i mainly use the monitor to watch movies, and video editing, and games, but watching movies in good quality > games

so maybe i should choose the dell instead?

You are looking at the wrong think, the LG contrast is not higher, it is a marketing ploy. The LG has a 2000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, where dell is stating the Static contrast ratio. The Static contrast ratio is the true and proper one to look at. I believe the LG has a 700:1 static contrast ratio as well.

I haven't used either monitor but am looking at the L204WT. Another benefit is LG's 3 year exchange warranty.

The Dell E series of monitors aren't any better than the other brands. Standard 5ms TN panels IRC.

I have an LG204WT, and am very impressed with it. I cannot stand backlight bleed at all, and almost all Dell displays I have seen have this problem. My LG has no such problems :)

The LG contrast ratio is way out to lunch though. That has to do with the 'F-Engine' they use. Default it makes everything look over saturated or very dark, but once setup correctly it can look great.

Yep. Only suckers pay attention to contrast ratio these days.

+1 for Dell. I do like LG but Dell quality is superb.

Seeing there's already a monitor related thread here, which monitor company has the best warranty? I have a BenQ one from a couple years ago and it's dying on me. I'm no longer fond of BenQ products.

Do you think Dell manufacturer's their own LCD's? LG's the largest producer in the world. Who do you trust with your LCD viewing experience? Regardless, make up your own mind.
