I need some advice here...

2000 Mazda MPV - 7K - 8

- Fully loaded
- 102K
- All major stuff just replaced over the winter...

What's it worth?? Is it worth for 7K??

Main question here as this would be the first time we buy a USED vehicle...

How reliable is it???

Any comments from current or previous owners would be appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

just traded ours in last fall--same model year, lower kms (72k).

that seems like a fair price, but try to aim for the bottom end of that range.

ours was pretty reliable. there was a slight issue with wheel hubs when the vehicle was about a year old, and they fixed that up, no problem. other than that, there was nary a problem with ours, save for a patch where i let the tranny fluid get low, and there was a bit of slippage, until i topped it up, and it ran fine. the alternator went on it at about 70k, and it was a pretty easy fix--found a replacement at a wreckers for about $100. parts are pretty easy to find, and if you don't mind getting a used one, they are very affordable (passenger side mirror $75 from wreckers, versus $300 from dealer).

one issue is fuel economy--it never was particularly good for us, but i guess part of it was the v6 engine--being used to 4cyl vehicles, it was a pig in comparison. the interior design is incredibly flexible. in the latter years, it was an excellent hauler of weekend warrior projects--seats came out very easily, it was one of the first to have the 3rd row collapse into the floor, and power windows on both dual sliding passenger doors. a/c in to the rear was a bit anemic, but passable.

it had plenty of room for our family, and we eventually outgrew it (age wise). the best part was how it handled--like a civic. it had a pretty tight turn radius, and the suspension was decent for a minivan.

slight rust along the window panel, and undercarriage (never did the rustproofing, so no surprise there)--do a thorough check of the fluid lines, etc. brakes replaced at about 50k, not a big deal--average cost there.

given the amount of depreciation someone else paid for, it's not a bad buy at all.

We've had our '01 MPV LX for a couple years now, and it hasn't needed any repairs at all...much better than my '00 Protege, into which I've sunk a couple thousand dollars over the last year.

I agree with afong56's comments, including the fuel economy issue. I got around 15-16 mpg in city driving this winter, and get about 18-20 mpg in the summer. If you drive a lot, it may be worthwhile to get a more fuel efficient van.

dont get this car, ive had an accident with this car with my altima

he rear ended me, and apparently, i just had to replace my bumper while the mpv was totalled but when i saw the accident, i notice how vulnerable the car was.

and for 7k, mind as well get a civic. they're more reliable after 100k correct me if im wrong.

i own a 2000 mpv.

ask if the heater front and rear heater pipes were replaced. They was a recall for the rear but nothing for the front. Mine rotted out 3 weeks ago and I had anti-freeze all in my driveway!

Luckily i noticed it and just had it towed and repaired (lucky for me the dealership did not charge me both times)

other than that it's a great van. 102,000km sounds low. I'm at 145,000 and work from home......

It's a pretty low milage... They only drive it during the weekend when they go out with the whole family.... It's like it's in a pretty good shape.. No rust or what so ever....

Apparently, they just got the alternator, brakes etc... changed around Xmas time.... They are moving out of the country hence for sale...

They live right across from us, so we do noticed that they didn't drive much except during the weekend as a weekend vehicle.....

I was thinking around 6.5K..... too low???
