Oh well. Finito Benito - back to $479.

Blacks has the Canon Powershot SD800IS on sale for $419.99.

All arguments about the 700 vs. the 800 aside, this is the best price I have seen, and there is PM opportunity too if you don't want Blacks 60 day price guarantee. FS has this camera for $499 at the moment.

I bought this camera back in December for my wife. At the time, it was retailing for $549 and I managed to get it for $479. My wife has praised this camera for its simplicity and features. It's definitely not made for a professional by any means but for the casual photographer, it takes great pictures without much effort. At $419, this is definitely a good bargain for anyone looking for this camera specifically.

I know you can't really compare, but just to put prices in perspective, I bought this camera in the US from Dell Online for ~400 CAD after shipping and taxes back in october (amerifriend++)...

But this is still definitely a good price for a B&M retail shop in Canada. Looks like they're getting ready to clear out stock for the new Canon P&S digicams...

I did the same thing! I was in the U.S. at the time and purchased it then from Dell. The image stabilizer is great! It's suppose to be better than the SD700IS. In fact, its the best point and shoot camera u can buy and now it's at a great price.

HIghly recommended:)

the sd800is has a wide angle lens, which the 700 does not.

So,

SD700IS $349 at FS.
SD1000 $338 with 1GB SD at BB.
SD800IS $419 at Blacks.

Decision decision.

Opinions?

Decent price.

2 local Black's stores have closed in the past few months though. Not very encouraging. >:(

They did have great deals on frames though, and a monopod which I picked up.

Where do you see these deals?
shows $399 for the SD700IS
and $339 for the SD1000 add 1 GB for $20

Some actually prefer the SD700IS over the SD800IS because the 700 has the older Digic II processor, whereas the 800 has the newer Digic III processor. This is because the Digic III does more post-processing, making the image slightly blurrier.

Yeah I was seeing that about the lack of IS... and you know I never thought it was really a big deal, but now when I think back to all the photos I took that came out blurry, that could have been great... makes me think that I need IS.

Went to BB and got no service. Was planning on going to Black but didn't see the store I was looking for. Went to FS and looked at the SD1000 and SD800IS. A guy had just purchased the SD1000 and gal was doing payment. A few minutes later the sales gal came and she was quite helpful telling me about the two camera. I already did my research so what she told me wasn't need, but I was impressed that she knew her stuff.

The SD1000 is tiny. For some reason the same 2.5" LCD seems smaller on this camera. I thought between the two and ended up with the SD800IS.
They did match price, but the manager didn't go the 10% extra because the Blacks deal was limited time/stock deal she said. I was ok with it and also got extra better and 2GB SD.

Will start taking some pics soon.

I thought about getting this, but I ended up buying the Powershot A640 at Staples for $429.99, with the accessory kit for $10 dollars extra. I find the Powershot to be very sleek and reliable models.
