Hi everyone, new to redflagdeals. FS is selling the Panasonic TH50PX60 for $2499 and it includes the stand.

Is this a good deal? The TV has great reviews.

Thx

I have the same TV. I'd say its a excellent deal if your using the TV stand, even the TV itself for $2499 is very good deal never mind the stand. This was the Boxing Day price but no TV stand offered at that time. The PQ is excellent especially on HD programming!

That is an amazing deal. I bought this TV on boxing day and it is an amazing TV. I would be jumping all over this deal if I hadn't already owned it. That stand looks very sharp with this TV. I paid 2499 back then without the stand.

In my opinion, Panasonic is by far #1 when it comes to Plasma TV's.

That's a great deal!

I agree this is simply the best on price/value. BTW, some Pioneer Plasmas are good too but they are far more expensive.

Good price. I picked up the Hitachi 55" Plasma at BestBuy, with the stand for $2499. Excellent picture quality

I'm interested in this tv. I know it's a plasma but is this set good for gaming (all 3 current consoles)?

I would suggest LCD for gaming as still images can cause burn in. The level of burn in on current Plasma's are much less then those of a few years ago, but plasma are still more susceptible to burn in then lcd's.

I saw this TV at futureshop, and I was extremely disappointed. The image on screen was all blurred and pixelated. People's faces where square-like... kinda looked like clay figures. We were going to buy this set, but when I noticed this, i turned away. My girlfriend didn't catch it right away, as she was focussed on buying it. When I pointed it out to her, she realized it was unnacceptable.

Was it receiving a direct feed?

Or was it sharing the feed with 300 other tv's?

any deals on this without the stand? I'm looking to mount the TV so don't need the stand.

I would say this deal is COLD since Walmart.com sells it for 1648 USD is no more than 1850 Canadian dollars.

You can't base your TV purchase on what you see in store. The Panasonic default settings (vivid mode) look terrible.

Burn in is pretty much a thing of the past... the number of hours that you must have a static image on your screen for this to happen (and be permanent) is a lot longer than your eyes and brain can take.. also, why are you playing a game that doesn't move, change screens etc? How would burn-in occur? - unless you just left it say paused for 10 days.. but a few hours at a time is harmless

No more mis-information

Depending on the set, LCD could be too slow for gaming..

If you go to a Audio Video store and see the TV's properly set up you'll see what it's capable of.

I was looking to buy the 42 inch of the Panasonic PX60 last week but then I went in to Best Buy and saw the new 2007 models all in black the TH42PX75. The TV looks really nice in black. I'll be waiting now till I can find a cheaper deal on this TV.

Also here's the press release with the details on new 2007 models:Link (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/03-30-2007/0004556816&EDATE=)

Sounds like it was on vivid and full mode for 4x3 instead of Just.. clay faces can be fixed by turning down the brightness. This is one of the best plasmas. I'd take it over the pioneer because the pio is more prone to burn in and the difference in picture is barely noticeable. This tv smokes the samsungs, hitachics, LGs etc...

You cannot go wrong at this price.. Yea it's cheaper in the U.S. but thats the U.S. for you.. I picked this up on boxing day for the same price.. AMAZING TV.. the WOW factor gets people everytime..

12.5 feet viweing distance running a viewsat extreme over component and the SD picture is the best I have ever seen out of any flat panel or rptv..

You won't be disapointed.

Whoever picked up the 55" hitach with stand did well.. That tv was $3500 on boxing day alone.. I was thinking about it but the flicker issuer and lower pq then the panny turned me off.

Note on size: If your thinking 42.. Go 50.. u won't regret it... At first I thought this thing was massive at a viewing distance of 12.5ft but now I'm thinking it's time to upgrade to a 58"

I picked up a 42" from FS just over a week ago. Awesome TV. When I watched it in-store, I didn't like the picture at all. However, after much research online, I ignored what I saw in-store. I'm glad I did. FS has a 30-day return policy anyways, so if you don't like the TV, you can return it.

I second that...Old out of date information that keeps getting passed around by people who do now keep up with new info.

Looking at the spec sheets posted earlier in the thread, the biggest difference I can see is native 1080p support and a black finish for the newer models. The current models will take in 1080p signal and downconvert it to 1080i. Is it worth waiting for the newer models and paying the price premium, or would I do well with the ones out there on sale now? Thanks.

for the first 100 hours run everything at half settings. Give the tv a chance to break in nicely. Only watch programs in Just or full mode.. Or use zoom when the image it cut off.. Avoid channels with tickers like cnn etc..

After the 100 hours u can play around. Most people suggest the following settings or something close.

pic: +22
brighteness: +8
Tint: -4
Colour: -1
sharpness: -14
colour temp warm.

It all depends on your video source tho. So those settings might not work out for you. I use the following settings

pic + 22/23
brightness: +2
tint: -1
colour 0
sharpness: +4ish
Temp: Change between cool and normal.

Ohhhhhh Almost forgot. the settings should be under the STANDARD mode and not vivid or cinema. Standard mode applies to the break in mode as well.

Be careful here. The new PX75 is *not* 1080p. The new PZ700 series *is* 1080p. Considering that the PX75 is already selling for a $500 or so premium over the PX60 (for the 42" model at least), I'd say it's not worth it...for the PX75 series at least.

Here's a thread with more info on the PX75:

$2500 with the stand is an *excellent* deal. I bought one last Christmas for that price w/o the stand but I am very happy with the purchase.

Can't wait for hockey playoffs in HD!!

I went in store last night and ordered the 50" Panasonic, free stand and the Star Choice HD receiver for $99.99. The cheap HD receiver made the deal to good to resists any further
My husband will be picking it up Friday.

Depending on the set, LCD could be too slow for gaming..Second to this. Also, another thing is even if you do have temporary burn in or IR, 95% of the time you will only really notice it on a pure white screen. How often do people stare into a pure white screen? Maybe for a second or two in a commercial but other than that, none.

I havent used an LCD that was too slow for gaming, even the cheap brands were up to par. However, for sports thats a whole other story.

Also NO static images for the first 100hrs (no games, no PC use), and limit the use of static images to under 15% of the total usage on the tv for the first 1000 hours. And a lot of people dont know this, but a plasma will actually break in MUCH quicker by running the settings on very high for the first 40-50hrs (was told this by Pioneer tech). It makes sense really, and no it will not damage anything. The lower you run the settings, the longer it takes to break in properly. Even though only 100 hrs is only needed for breaking in with no static images, its not until 1000 hours when the set completely breaks in and becomes the most resistant in avoiding burn in. Under 100hrs, is where plasmas are most vulnerable for burn in, 100-1000 less likely but still vulnerable, after 1000hrs...very unlikely.
