View Full Version : More cops on the roads in GTA

Has anyone else noticed more cops around giving tickets this week? I have seen like 4 people pulled over on 401 and DVP this week. Plus I saw an unmarked cruiser waiting for speeders in the Brick works off Bayview. Are they cracking down on speeders?

Didn't they announce they were going to do ticketing on weekdays rather than just focusing on the long weekends?

i've noticed more cops as well

there was an accident on DVP this morning tho... so that may of contributed to more cops being on the highway.

Have definitely noticed more cops (mostly OPP) on the highways. Usually see at least one car pulled over on my commute to and from work.

What a sad state of affairs. Traffic police are a far greater threat to my well-being than the various types of "bad" drivers on the roads.

there is always more police on the roads when the weather gets warmer

I see lot of police in unusual spot setup speed detector, most are at 80km turn into 50km zone. If they find the pray they just walk into the road and stop that car, they're holding up traffic big time.

Being a regular on the 401/DVP i have noticed more cops. Also on major roads too.

Drive safe!

It's been a slow winter.
Cities are gearing up for their new budgets and need more revenue for all those things we all want so, where else can you get a lot of money for a little work? Why, speeding tickets of course!
Lemme see, stop 20 people an hour, average $120 each, time XX cops on the road for XX days....woo hoo, we can build a new skating rink!!

Ever since the OPP announced the end of blitzes I have been seeing the OPP on the 407 nearly every day, half the the time patrolling, the other half as a speed trap.

Just this past Easter Sunday in the afternoon while travelling on the QEW from Hamilton to Mississauga, I counted 5 OPP cars on the east bound side, and 2 on the westbound. All were in plain sight, not close to bridges or other obstacles. A show of force?

as someone who gets profiled on a weekly basis, yes, I've seen more cops out. Makes me not even want to drive sometimes

I'm not trus, but my best guess is that he is referring to the fact that people drive like freaks in the presence of police. They brake at the site of a police car, whether they are speeding or not. They drive with their eyes glued to their own spedometer, and forget about the cars around them. You can see it.

It's not the tickets or points so much, it's the insurance premium ramifications that hurt the most. People get dinged for a couple 20-overs, and suddenly their insurance goes up. Another couple, and you are paying a lot more.

Meanwhile, the bobbing-and-weaving types seem to get away with it. It's maddening.

You mean Briggs and Bayview? Yea there's a lot of cops there, and some like to hide in Queens College.

I actually find it the opposite, when you're driving near a cop, people stop the tailgating, cutting off, excessive speeding, no-signal lane changing, etc. I find this to be so true that I've actually seriously considered buying a white Impala, pulling off the hubcaps, and sticking some coffee cans on the back deck, just so people will be less likely to drive so dangerously around me when I'm on the road with my family in the car.

To me, more cops on the road is a great idea, I think the reason people currently drive so insane all the time is because the odds of being caught are so low, and they know it. I think we need a much bigger police presence on the roads, all unmarked cars who's main goal is nabbing the idiots who drive as I mentioned above.

Sigh...I think we probably have opposite viewpoints on how best to share the road with our fellow motorists. I usually find that it's the people who are going slower than the flow of traffic in their lane who cause other cars to tailgate and make more lane changes than necessary. Assuming that the flow of traffic is a more realistic indicator of appropriate driving speed than the official speed limit, speeding tickets serve no purpose other than to generate revenue. I find that I am a worse driver when I'm on the lookout for police - checking the rearview mirror too much instead of looking ahead, slowing down when I see a car resembling a cop, checking the rims/hubcaps on Impalas & Crown Vics, looking for antennas, etc. It's a distraction. And no, I refuse to slow down because I feel I'm going at a safe, reasonable speed in sync with the flow of traffic, even though it's higher than the limit.

I drive to work from Burlington to Toronto everyday. I think the worst drivers are those who go slow in the left lane, causing everyone to bunch up behind them. Next worst is those drivers who leave unnecessarily large gaps in rush hour so that they're essentially hogging more of the road than anyone else.

I agree with you. There should be police cars that are unmarked that catch those idiots who drive really badly. If they wanna drive fast or cut or whatever, they should leave it for the track. However, whenever i see impalas or Crown Victorias, i tend to make sure I'm near speed limit and make sure its a cop or not before i decide to pass it.. haha. They need more other types of cars instead if they wanna get people by surprise

I would suggest there is something in your driving history that makes your license plates very noticeable. I would at least change plates.

The people I see tailgating and driving like idiots are usually trying to go faster than the speed of traffic, not just trying to get around people going slower than the average speed.

These are the people who you probably see every day on your drive who pull out onto the on-ramps to get 10 cars ahead of traffic, then cut back in at the last second, forcing everyone to jam on their brakes, further snarling traffic behind them. These are the worst drivers out there in my opinion.

I don't know if it's just me or the Volvo, but I've never been pulled over. Ever.

It's not a secret that government wants us use public transport system, I think this is where it's all coming from. I don't mind using public transportation but honestly, it stinks, look at subway in London, Moskow, go to France, Germany - benchmarks of public transportation. GTA is too far from being a friendly place in that respect.

I think its how people are driving. If you past a cop car and your looking all paranoid ish are staring them down..OBVIOUSLY they will pull you over. My car looks aggressive as hell. It's mainly stock body but lowered to the floor with 18"s and a hood vent. Ya it gets looks from cops all the time.

Point is, even looking like this, I don't get pulled over often (knock on wood.) When I see a cop I just make sure speed limit and I'm looking dead straight, even if I know their looking at me. Last time I got pulled over my tail lights we're gone-- courteousy goes along way, no matter how much you hate "the man." Got off with a warning and threats about improperly mounted plates and car being too low. Guy even complimented my car after lol.

I digress...Stop acting so suspicious and maybe they won't suspect you?

Too bad they arent picking on the right people. I seen many vehicles this week that were puffing out black/gray smoke like mad!! wasnt even funny.

I always see dumbasses driving and swerving in their vans, people just driving very stupid.

Sometimes I just wanna be a cop so I can give every dumbass on the road a ticket. :!:

Add Vancouver to the stink list. I am serious when I say I waste SOOO much time waiting for the bus to come, sometimes I wait twice as long then the actual trip. I do check the schedule, but it is very inaccurate and sometimes if you need to do transfer, so it is a hit or miss.

However, I do use transit as much as possible. I rarely drive my car on the weekdays, just take the bus to work. It is cheaper and easier than dealing with gas, parking and traffic. However, if you want to go somewhere else then downtown or on the skytrain route. A car saves a lot of time.

Its definately not my habit or record. I dont drive aggresively in my Mitsu. In terms of performance, on all levels, my bullet brick Volvo would chew it up. Plus, Its been 4+ years now since I've been issued a ticket. Just nosey cops running a background check

Never get pulled over in the brick either, even though I drive it harder then my other ride. I guess I bring it upon myself, driving what I drive, in Markham >:(
