Hey does anybody remember the online store
www.stupidcomputers.com?
They've been out of business for a year and half now I think.
Anyway, somebody was metioning in another post aobut problems with www.ncix.com and how its a booming business thats suffering from growing pains. I just want to say that I hope ncix.com gets back on track cause they are by far the best online retailers I've dealt with.
Um.. yeah, its just a little rant. Read it, comment if you want. But there's nothing overtly important in this.
Cheers

I have a suspicion that www.mycableshop.com is run by a former stupidcomputers operator. I have no facts to back it up, just a general sense when I visit the website.
This is not to say anything negative about mycableshop. It's just this deja vu sense I get.

My computer came from Stupid Computers, the retail store though. It was a very nice computer store...

Ya I remember stupidcomputers. I like their website style and I made my first deal on their Buy and sell Forum. I also bought a bunch of cd-r from them for a very good price back than.

I always liked their ADs in Toronto Computes. They had great price for a computer shop that's not in GTA.

Well, Stupid Computers was run by M. C.. The mycableshop.com domain is registered to J. Caky in Kingston, ON. And there are a few postings earlier this year and last year in the kingston.forsale newsgroup by *@caky.net. Sounds like there's a link! :)
What was with the girls on the stupidcomputers.com web site anyway?!

ah yes.. Stupidcomputers.. I bought the Wacom Graphire from them and after a few emails and "we're shipping it tomorrow" deal.. they go bankrupt and there goes my graphire!! They could have just straight out said that they were going out of business and couldn't fulfill their orders instead of taking mine, assuring me that it will be shipped soon, taking their website offline and then running away.
Last thing I got regarding Stupidcomputers was a letter from the liquidators telling me that I had to sign some sheet and get money back from the liquidation!! I looked at the list of people that they still owed money to and it was insane! They ran off with a lot of people's money! (including some from IBM if I remember correctly).
Good thing I called up MasterCard and they got the credit back for me.. hehe.. let MasterCard go after them!
I had some friends who ordered stuff from them with no hassle, so I tried and got screwed. That sucked big time.. no more dealing with anyone involving those con artists!!

I know this is an old thread, but I just noticed some info relevant to it ("evidence", if you will)...
Further to what I posted earlier...I just saw that at http://www.mycableshop.ca/2nd_Cat/35mm.htm the link for item CSTER35-6Y - "6 Inch 3.5mm PC Speaker Y-Cable Male to Female to Female" goes to //Server1/mydocs/myron/Webwork%20on%20Mcs-bu/MCS_Canada/sku/CSTER35-6Y.htm
Someone claimed in one of the newsgroups back in 2000 that StupidComputers went belly up with $170,000 in debts and $5,000 in assets. Many people were in the same boat as RendX. One would hope the money is being managed a little better this time around with myCableshop.

I bought some cables from them and it was handled fairly quickly. But then again, I don't think they'll go bankrupt anytime soon by charging $20 for a 6-foot usb cable.

pfft, I still have that bankruptcy letter with about 20+ pages of names. I lost my money because I didn't have a credit card at the time. >:( One of the guys from a Toronto computer TV show was at the financial holdings meeting. I doubt anyone got anything after their assets were liquidated.

i think NCIX has a lot of issues that they havent solved
by far, they are not the best i have dealt with
it is just that we basically have no good stores to deal with right now in canada

I've dealt lots with MyCableshop since their inception, and have had outstanding service. Whenever I go shopping for what they have to sell, they get first dibs. If they are related to stupidcomputers, it looks like they're doing ok, perhaps have learned a few things.

I personally love NCIX. I've spent well over $5000 with them, and none of my orders had problems (I've placed over 25 orders I bet).
I hope NCIX can become the Canadian Newegg. A man can dream. And by that I mean - a nerd can dream.

Basically no returns of most items, backorders not being fulfilled before newly placed orders .. etc..

perhaps your best bet when buying hardware is to buy from local and not ordering online from small computer stores and checking it right away when you get home that way you can return it on the same day.

I still have one of their stickers (goth girl holding lasergun) on one of my moving boxes!
In my university marketing class in 2000, one of the groups chose Stupidcomputers.com as their clients for a pro bono marketing consultation. They folded shortly afterwards. :p I like to joke that it was the students' fault, but it was probably because they were selling CD-Rs for below cost + free shipping...
