Try using CoolEdit, it is now owned by Adobe.

A) try to search for the master track acapella on the net
of unsuccessfull try
B) obtain the instrumental version of the song
C) use a audio editor program to take the song -invert the instrumental and minus it = what you have left should be a CPUGEN Acapella. May not sound 100% clean but there are plugins to fix that up.

This is the opposite of what the OP is asking. Now although I havent tried it, If you have the acapella and the original with the vocal, the 'mathematics' should work out if you invert the acapella, being left with just the music ;)
There is also a plug-in/program called 'Voicetrap', which can be found here:

Now a question for the OP... What song are you looking to made into an instrumental? I have a *lot* of experience with this stuff and can try a few things out here in my studio :)

you cant remove vocals from a master track and have it sound good.... it just doesnt work like that. if you do take the advice above and try to invert the phase of an instrumental version of the same track it will take out the majority of the instrumental but it wont leave you anything proper sounding that you can work on (for whatever reason it may be). the best bet is to try and dig up an accapella version of the song.
