I'm a complete newbie on RSS. I would like to be able to get the latest Hot Deal (title at least) sent to me the moment it's posted. What program would I use to do that? It would also be useful if it has an option to make a sound whenever a new deal arrives.
Does the RFD RSS also provide updates on when a thread gets updated or is the e-mail subscription the only way?
I use FireFox, btw, and I pretty much leave it up all the time. THanks.

There are lots of ways to get RSS. Here's a link to the Hot Deals forum RSS:

If you are only using one feed, using the built in Live Bookmarks function in Firefox is probably your best bet. If you're going to be subscribing to a bunch of RSS feeds, Netvibes (http://www.netvibes), iGoogle (http://www.google.ca/ig), and Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com) are the most popular feed aggregators.

actually, I need a specific type of feed that will beep or something and tell me when something new has been posted and I'd like it to scroll across in a newsfeed format, perhaps at the browser's status bar? live bookmarks doesn't do it. does any of the others?
actually, I'll take anything that will just beep when something new has been added. thanks.
