Shipment with FedEx International Ground from USA to Canada
--------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,
I have always used USPS Surface Parcel for large parcel shipments (35Lbs to 50lbs). In May, USPS dropped Surface Parcel shipments to Canada from USA, and have increased their rates by 20 to 30% it seems. Thus, am evaluating if "FedEx International Ground" is good for shipments from USA to Canada. Please do reply if you have experiences and recommendation in using FedEx.
Please dont recommend FedEx International Economy/Priority, as those rates are way to high. Ofcourse every one know UPS brokerage is a theft..(and all its Air shipments r expensive too) thus, no advice on UPS too..

Please looking forward to yr reply as I need to do these shipments asap.

If you think the UPS brokerage fee's for ground shipping are a crime wait until you see what FedEx charges! And they are even more deceptive about the brokerage fee (for ground shipping), they don't inform you of it when they drop the package off, they send you an invoice two weeks later! :cheesygri

I would suggest UPS Expedited but to each their own...

I wonder if they would ship to a rental PO Box address.

For a $100 item, FedEx likes to charge $30 for brokerage fees. I always get the seller to ship via USPS and if not then ship via FedEx via air since you are paying more (although brokerage is calculated in the cost), but you are getting your item faster and you are pretty much paying the same (sometimes less) than ground.

FedEx Air to is rip off dude. Below are shipment charges for a 35lbs parcel from San Francisco to Calgary.

FedEx International Priority® $190.96
FedEx International Economy® $160.89
FedEx International Ground® $38.30

The cheapest used to be USPS, but, now they too have increased by 20%..I guess somewhere around $55 or so. FedEX groud seems to be cheapest...thus, want to confirm of their brokerage cost.

Yeah sorry, I wasn't thinking of the weight of the shipment...I am used to buying/selling camera gear...

Is FedEx brokerage cost dependent upon the value of the shipment..If my shipment is worth $20..would the brokerage be $6 then...any clue?

i just bought a laptop from california. bought it on wednesday @ 3pm, got it in my hands on thursday @ 12pm (the next day).

this was the fastest ive ever received anything online (from the states). i got it through UPS Airborne Express (or something similar)..

it was quite costly.. for a 8lb package (but the laptop is 1.2lb), from california to toronto: 91 dollars. tack that on with duties + etc: 150 more.. which totals 240~. ugh, i just realized how stupid i am. but whatever, i needed it desperately for the weekend.

Well, I found my solution temporarily.

USPS has these "Priority Mail Box Flat Rate Box-O-FRB1", which allows americans to dump upto 20lbs in these boxes fixed size boxes, which can be be shipped to Canada for $23. I will stick with this for now for my needs..Thanks to all who replied...More replies certainly appreciated.
