Check out this new abomination:
http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/article/799/799433/transformers-animated-poster_1182827311.jpg
From IGN:
In a move that will certainly raise the eyebrows of longtime Transformers fans, the series is intended as a very different take on the concept, with the heroic Autobots serving as a sort of superhero team that face threats from evil humans most of the time, rather than constantly fighting their longtime enemies, the Decepticons.
The Hollywood Reporter says the plan is to give the robots "more human qualities" on the series, to allow for kids to better identify with them. Cartoon Network's Bob Higgins tells Cartoon Network "We've used the basic Transformers and characters as a springboard, but then we're pretty much reimagining the whole thing. What we're doing with it is basically turning it into a superheroes story. We're really excited that we're able to take this decades-old property and hopefully turn it into something that kids haven't seen or expected from a Transformers series before."
Sorry for the incorrect spelling above. My keyboard is wonky and I can't seem to re-edit the title.

Yeah, what's up with that? Actually, the early reviews from the critics have been pretty good. They say that while dialogue and story are thin, the action and special effects are among the best ever seen.
In fact, I'll go on a limb now and say that Transformers will be the #1 domestic movie of the year, ahead of Spider-Man, Pirates, and Shrek.

I highly doubt that. Spiderman broke the box office record and Shrek 3 was not far behind.
I think it will be in the top 10 for sure and possibly the top 5 but there is no way its beating Spiderman 3

I didn't mean opening weekend (which is sort of impossible anyway as Transformers comes out on a Tuesday with Monday sneaks). I meant total domestic gross. The three-quels of May all look like they're going to top out with between $325-340M domestic which is an attainable figure to reach. Other than Harry Potter the week after and The Simpsons movie at the end of the month, July has a fairly light release schedule so Transformers won't have the heavy competition that the Big Three did.

From what I saw at the Tfcon, despiste some of the cast choices & the changes to Megatron & others, they went out of thier way to satisfy the TF fans.
Plus most people I spoke to weren't too impressed with Spidey3, or Pirates. My bets is that Transformers will break or match some records just don't know if it'll take out Spidey3. + I doubt it will be on as much screens.

I think it will be in the top 10 for sure and possibly the top 5 but there is no way its beating Spiderman 3...My guess is it'll be in the top 5 for this year. Lately it seems the majority of successful blockbuster movies are released in July or August.

...What the F is this crap? Oh well, it's probable that G1/G2 fans will hate this, but as for newborn kids, this is their generation of transformers.
At least they could have stuck with the original transformer design.. Optimus looks like a deformed incredible

All anime Transformer series after Beast Wars sucks ass. They are corny as hell and CG should never be mixed with anime. The results were poorly animated models partnered with choppy anime characters who run at 10 frames per second. It just doesn't work.

Transformers Go!
The team working on this is the same one as the Teen Titans cartoon (which I didn't mind, actually). I'm going to reserve judgment on the movie and this but it doesn't look very good so far.

I wholeheartedly agree with you there. I mean sure the original G1 series is painful to watch nowadays but the anime series with worse whiny characters is even worse.
As for the movie, there are more haters than lovers (yes it hasn't been seen yet but the changes they've made look horrible so far to us G1 lovers) out there.

Ok.. hold on guys, you've haven't heard the worst part yet.
From AICN:
As reported here last week, the Cartoon Network will begin transmitting early next year the new “Transformers Animated” series. More details have emerged on the project – notably a diminished role for the dastardly Decepticons.
From Monday’s Hollywood Reporter:
Cartoon and Hasbro execs said the new series, "Transformers Animated," will be significantly different than the others, adding humor, never-before-seen characters and a new premise in which the Autobots fight evil humans in Superhero fashion much more frequently than they battle the Decepticons -- the traditional "Transformers" lore since the property launched as a toy in 1984.
"We've used the basic Transformers and characters as a springboard, but then we're pretty much reimagining the whole thing," said Bob Higgins, senior vp programming and development at Cartoon Network. "What we're doing with it is basically turning it into a superheroes story. We're really excited that we're able to take this decades-old property and hopefully turn it into something that kids haven't seen or expected from a Transformers series before."

Its obviously aimed at children, so I dont see the big deal. Xmen cartoon was much simpler than the movies as well. Its not meant for sci-fi geeks.
To be honest, based on TRAILERS ALONE, Transformers movie *looks* much better than 300 did.

I disagree with you there. I thought 300 looked badass from the very beginning while the Transformers movie looked awful soon as we started seeing how they looked like twisted pieces of metal.

Fair enough, different strokes I suppose.
But I laughed when I saw the 300 trailer...it looked like a reenactment of the fight scenes in Gladiator (without any of the plot) at the Gay Pride Parade.
Twisted pieces of metal, as you say, throwing cars around and crushing highway overpasses seem more badass to me than a sausage fest wrestling and rolling around with each other in loincloths.:cheesygri
But its all good.

The only remake of the cartoon in a series format should come from the production company that did Beasties (Beast Wars). They did a great job with that series, it would be the only logical choice.

Transformers was average at best. The dialogue was quite bad (as evidenced in ohter Michael Bay jems such as Pearl Habour), the plot was lack luster and the action shots were way too jumpy - hard to follow (leaving the audience frustrated at times). One of the only few things going for the movie was ILM's robots.

The new cartoon and the current anime cartoon are equally bad and is an embarrasment to the original series. They should have stuck with Beasties (Beast Wars) style.

i heard Weird Al Yankovic has a role in the new animated transformers series.
to be honest, i'd rather have transformers drawn in anime style. even the G1 series is considered anime since the series was drawn by the folks at Toei Animation.
