yup.

add 14% and a big-ass brokerage fee if you're getting it shipped.

Not to mention the shipping cost of a large TV tends to be big. Have to take that into account unless your getting free shipping.

wow, that's cheap.

1716.12 +tax = 1956.24 still cheap.

those people that work in niagra border have no life, they are all having bad mood and bad attitude.

Edit: buy one in futureshop, bring the receipt with you to the states and buy one in the states. Bring it to the border with the FS receipt and see if they still charge you tax or not.

Sorry, I just hate a guy in the niagra border so much, he got a tag "#19797". Hope it works for you.

Future Shop receipts have the serial numbers printed on it
I'm guessing the border crossing guards see this type of thing on a daily basis

That seems extremely odd and out of the ordinary.. I would bet that you would get searched for sure. What plausible reason would you tell the customs officer for having to bring in a brand new 40" tv into the states and back? A laptop yea... but a new in box 40" plasma tv??

This is actually a good way to get yourself arrested for Obstructing/Hindering a Peace Officer in a worst case scenario.

Your border experience is usually only as a bad as you make it.. Pulling goofy **** like was suggested is a pretty surefire way to make it so you have a pretty bad day.

not implying anything, but how do they know you're smuggling it over if you say you have nothing to claim?
