1) Make sure you're logged out of your current account and then go to www.hotmail.com or get.live.com/mail/overview and sign up for a free account.

2) At the signup page, go to the address bar and in the URL replace hmnewuser.aspx with newuser.aspx (remove the hm) and remove the &hm=1 afterwards. Hit enter.

3) You can now sign up for a brand spanking new @live.com address!

and this is useful how? i wouldn't recommend it, choosing the alternative from hotmail gives you problems down the road with some apps that you would like to use but it has problems understanding something other than @hotmail.com, i had this problem with 2 of my past emails and had to change it to @hotmail.com to get some stuff to work, and ended up having to re add all my contacts and change my info on websites

What does an @live.com have that a regular hotmail.com account doesn't?

To you and TapemanPL, it's just a way so that you can get your name on a domain. So instead of having John12351@hotmail.com, you can have your e-mail as John@live.com. i wouldn't say its something that useful but its pretty cool to be able to use your name without a bunch of numbers.

i can see how that is kind of useful, but that's just not a problem right now because not a lot of people have registered yet...my @hotmail.com is what i want it to be and allows me to use more add ons for msn. and don't you guys find it a huge pain in the ass to change all the info around so your emails start going to your new one? it took me a week to get most of my stuff going to that one email and i'm still finding out places i forgot

I don't think add-ons are affected by the user name. They alter and tweak certain parts of Windows live messenger so that you can use certain options. But I'm not sure if using anything besides @hotmail.com would affect it.

US proxy?

US proxy?

http://www.the-cloak.com/login.html

Input http://get.live.com/mail/overview

Click "sign up" or whatever. Change the URL to newuser and remove &hm=1 per previous instructions.

(You can't sign up using a proxy, because the antispam verification will not work)

Once you get to the live.com signup screen, copy the URL, and paste it into a new window WITHOUT the "the-cloak" stuff. Sign up as normal and you'll have a .com

This is kind of useless to me... they didn't have my name unfortunately... hope I can help someone else out though.

Oops. Worked earlier for 4 people that I sent it to, but guess they tightened up the loophole.

for those who want .com you could try replacing

with

i'm not sure if it'll work but it's worth a try... i can't register again after i got my first one

i actually want a @live.it address :D

according to the link from the OP this method doesnt work anymore!

Because live.com email addresses are not officially lauched.
