My car door opener will not work. When I push the button on the remote the light on my unit flashes 10 times with a clicking noise but nothing else happens. I checked the sensors nothing seems to be blocking them. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Mine does that when the door is jammed. Use the manual override and see if the door can move freely. Also see if the opener works (moves the chain) with the door in the manual mode.

Ours did that when the main spring broke. $50 fix, and all was well again.

$50 for a main spring and labor to install. What a deal.:?:

Check the low (floor) level sensors and make sure they are pointed at each other and clean. If they cannot see each other the door will not move and the light or LED will blink

It's a local guy who does it part time with just sign on his lawn. He even installed the system for us a few years ago for $75 and a case of Blue!!! Well worth every penny not having to listen to hubby b!tch in the garage! ;)

If it works to open, but not to close, then it's probably sunlight on the sensors. I thought mine was busted until a neighbor told me that this was her problem.

I had a similar problem with my old one. The arm of the opener went past the safety pin on the top rail and jammed the motor. We manually moved the sliding arm back, rewound the motor and reset the safety pin and ajdustment.
I know it's not a good explanation, my father in law did most of the work. :D

1) It's humid. Wooden doors and wooden door frames and wooden doors suck up the moisture and expand making the door tighter. It may be too much for the openers current sensitivity settings and not work.

2) Sensors are blocked or not pointing at each other. There needs to be a light on each sensor.

3) It's too hot. Openers won't work if they are over heated.

As mentioned above, pull the emergency release, move the door manually and see if there are any issues with it sticking. If so, find it and fix it.

I do not sell openers. I install openers that people buy, unless it's a Genie, and then I won't install it at all.

Possibilities:

1. the spring is broken. You can see it visually. Also, if you release the GDO lock and you can't lift if up (it will be very heavy), the spring is broken. Be careful though, if you cannot hold it and it slams down, you can damage the door and your toes. GD usually comes with a pair of spring. Even if only one is broken, you should replace both. If you replace only one, the older one will also break soon. Replacing both springs should cost you $100 to $150. Replacing one will be from $80 to $100.

2. The gear of your GDO is totally stripped.

3. If your GDO does not work when the weather is hot but okay when it is cooler, it means the gear of your GDO is stripped but not bad enough to be totally busted.

For (2) and (3), find a GDO guy to check out to check the GDO.

Since you said:

the light on my unit flashes 10 times with a clicking noise but nothing else happens

I guess it is #2.

I actually have had 3 call backs on Chamberlain/Craftsman openers now, all with exactly the same problem. It appears that Chamberlain had a bad batch of power supplies on the board causing a load buzzing noise. No, nothing related to installation :)

Chamberlain sent up a new board free of charge and I replaced them for the clients free of charge. Sears however, did the entire service call themselves, free of charge. Get the Sears models.

Is there any brands you would recommend over others, that are better than others, like less breakdowns? Sears, LiftMaster, Chamberlain.....

Sears, Liftmaster and Chamberlain are ALL made by Chamberlain. You should be able to get 15 years out of a properly matched, installed and maintained opener.

Liftmaster are usually the ones available from companies that actually install the doors.

Sears Craftsman models look identical to Chamberlain, just slightly different styling and some different options.

I've always preferred the Sears branded ones because they tend to always be on sale and offer some interesting extras.
