Very interesting. I've been researching an alternative to grass and have almost decided on getting fake grass

But if I can find a natural alternative I'd be happier. I'll have to look into this a bit more. Thanks for the heads up.

We have an area with some stepping stones with mulch in between, and we grow Creeping Jenny there. It grows like a weed, and takes lots of abuse. Our 2 year old stomps all over it constantly, and it doesn't seem to mind much. Wouldn't do it as grass replacement, though, it's too stringy.

Has anyone priced out fake grass cost per square foot? I'd be curious to know.

I had a friend do it. She said that the price per square foot depends on the size of your lawn as well as how much landscaping/overhaul it needs. That's because the company she uses did everything for her. On average it ranges between $7-$10 a square foot.

It's a great option for us because our lawn is only 20x12 and the rest is paved.

Actually I think that fake turf is pretty cool. We've been watching them do the prep work at the new playground going in down the street from us. It will be a 100% handicapped accessible playground that can be used year-round. They are going to install that artificial turf as it's wheelchair friendly, soft enough for kids to fall on and can be shoveled off in the winter.

If anyone wants to see what this product looks like installed at a house and you are in the Avenue Rd and 401 area look for Bombay Ave. The home on the south side of Bombay at the Kirkton intersection has one installed. The gardner comes in once a week to vaccum it.

Where are you putting the Irish Moss glaswegian? I have both Irish and Scotch mosses. Don't expect them to fill in an area quickly. They are relatively slow growing. They also mound which is why they are used so often in Japanese style gardens, to create that rolling hill look.

Hi everyone,
I understand there is a discussion in regards to Artificial Grass. I work for Artificial Grass and landscaping inc or www.aglgrass.com. I can answer any questions that you may have. Artificial Grass has become more popular in Canada now because of water conservation area and pesticide control, even the emissions from lawnmower. Some people were turn off from of it in the past, bbecause the products were not realistic. Now the product are so realistic, that even I have drive right past, my own installation. Not all product are the same, some do look fake. Our companys product need to meet very high standards in quality and durability. We also use recycled material.... Our focus is a Green. We understand there is great landscovers out there, if you want and area where dog and children will play and like the look of grass... Artificial Grass is a great solution. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

It's all good and dandy, what kind of price are we talking about here for the grass and plastic mulch?

The Artificial Grass general ranges from $8 to $15 per square foot. The price varies depending on the size of the area or the scope of work involved. The scope of work involve removing and disposing of the existing sod, addition and compaction of a stone base (similar to a paving stone base),creating a perimeter around garden and such. Installation of the grass and crygenic rubber infill (the support the blades), any seams and fastening to the base. with an 8 year warranty.

The artificial Mulch is from recycled tires which are also cleaned and cryogenically frozen (nitrogen). The chunky style is $35 per 50lbs. bag and $49 for the new shredded style.
