Referred by a friend working in BMO on this deal, called to signup this morning for my

family, and all went well, just had to mention "BMO Employee". Thought this is a really hot deal considering just round-trip airfare will already be around $1400-1600. The best part is, the trip is designed to coincides with Remembrance Day, so just had to take 6 days off work combined with weekends for a 11 day trip.

Does anyone know if the Travel insurance that come with credit cards actually do any good? Or should I purchase one myself just to be safe?

Here's the details from the itenary brouchure I received.

The tours in China are actually quite good value. They include all the food, transport, admissions, and accommodation. Aside from the real attractions, do expect to be taken to other "attractions" like a silk factory where they try to sell you stuff; but you don't have to buy anything. We stayed at a 5-star in Beijing but it's actually a brand new Crown Plaza outside the city in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is really nice but there's nothing within walking distance and it's hard to get a cab to go anywhere. It's only a problem if you decide to separate from the tour group and explore on your own. That seems like a pretty good price from Toronto.

i did a tour in beijing as well, stayed at a 5-star hotel in the city. it was awesome, BUT i would never do it again because everything seemed rushed. It did not seem like a vacation.

Also, this deal is not bad, but for 11days? can we stay longer with this deal?

It usually takes me 3 weeks to recover from a 16hour plane ride (one way)

Will they later check to see if you are a BMO employee?

Nope, this is a BMO friends and family type of deal. Just not publicly advertised.

I'm sure those government officials must love to remember our fallen soldiers on the golf course! You don't see police and EMTs getting the day off. stupid government.

No im not a politician, I work at a bank as well. Yea this deal is designed for BMO employees after all. Its not a big deal if your not working for a bank/govt, just an extra 1-day off then, i think most businesses are slow in Nov anyways.

Golf in early November? You've obviously never been to Ottawa for Nov 11.

As for the deal - it looks like a great price when one compares flights alone.

After my friend came back from China (forgot which province he's from) he told me he's never going back, ever again. Too dirty, too crammed, too dirty, he said basically he was disgusted. Wanna show him this post so he can say "cold deal".

Does anyone know if this offer is only good for the center of the universe? For us on the outer planets, we might want to go traveling too.

Where did your friend go? If you go on these tours, you see and eat nothing but clean stuff. Accommodations are very clean as well.

However, if your friend was staying with the locals or went back to visit his "village", then yeah, it can be pretty dirty.

can you extend the trip past the set date?

if anyone has gone on a similar trip, how much free time do you get to do your own thing?

do the commies try to brainwash you? :)

Agreed, 4-5star hotels in Beijing and Shanghai is just not comparable to other "family accomodations" non-metropolitan cities.

Also get a choice of staying in San Francisco for a few days stop-over at no charge.

Looks like a good deal. The air fare to China around Nov could cost around $1200.

Thanks for the info.

That flight from Vancouver-Hongkong + free Singapore is pretty good, book by Aug 15.

I wouldn't go for the cuba package though ... I've been told not to go for anything below a 4-star resort in cuba... is similar to a motel quality in Canada/US :|

Unless you're backpacking it or cooking yourself, ppl should always stay at 4.5 star resorts and up in Cuba. Anything less, and the drop in quality is very noticeable (especially from the food end).

As for the OP's deal, it's really hot! Too bad I don't have that many vacation days to spend. :(

This is definitely the hottest deal I've seen for China. Just called to confirm, just mention BMO employee or friends and I'm eligible for the price, no background check. Friendly service too :D

Wow, I didn't know that. I thought everyone gets Remembrance Day off.

Statutory holiday everywhere except Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. Commemoration of Canada's war dead.

I've also booked with a free stop over at San Francisco, but for 3 days. Yes United is by default.
