Hi so I got this pc its a Athlon 2600 ( axda2600dkv4d (http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20XP%202600+%20-%20AXDA2600DKV4D.html))

Now there is a problem, when I go to install xp pro it boots up fine it does the first set up fine, then when it needs to reboot, it just hangs or gives random error messages. it just won't pass that section of the set up. I tried installing redhat linux I had laying around and same thing when it needs to reboot to complete installation it acted up (10101001011010010101_ scrolling across the screen forever in this case with linux)

I am wondering if its the cpu or the motherboard, I switched 3 different pieces of ram and 2 difference cd rom and 3 different hard drives and the same problem occurred.

would it be worth it to save? I would need to buy a socket 462 mobo and the 3 stores i go to downtown don't carry them it seems on the website..

any comments, suggestions would be appreciated.

Socket-A mobo ... http://www.cty.ca/index.asp?dir=motherboard&category=AMD%20Socket%20A/462

On the other hand, does this system still has any valuable information on it ? If not, maybe it's time to move on to a new system.

You will likely require a reinstallation of WinXP (assuming that's your OS). You may not .... but I would recommend.
