.. is it okay to ask this? I hope.

Anyway, I'm looking for a new phone (Nokia 8800 specifically), but I'm not sure where to buy from. I checked out puremobile.ca, and they seem okay, but I'm unsure of other places to look. Can anyone recommend me some good (also, safe) sites to look for phones?

Allow me to give you a crash course.

Most of these online stores, are 'resellers' of these phones. This means the Manufacturer does NOT recognize them as an authorised Dealer, and HENCE provides ZERO warantee coverage when presented with a receipt therefrom.

The more reputable stores will offer their own in-house extended warantee policies that can be purchased for a premium.

What you are left with are the various online buy and sell classified mish-mash, or if you are stupidly rich, Just buy it outright from Rogers or Fido, or from the manufacturer directly, to benefit from a false sense of eliteness, but mainly a legitimate warantee.

What you find in the B&S forums, are a melting pot of legitimate people selling hups which they got for next to nothing, or actually paid a couple bucks for, and just don't want anymore (these people you may be able to request proof of activation or a receipt for warantee purposes). Then you have the inevitable people who have acquired their phones through less than ethical means, and which undoubtedly will concoct some story about why they only have the phone and charger, or don't have any receipt for.

Anyway, all the best. My personal recommendation is find a person who has a reputable feedback record and ask them to hook you up.

Cheers.
