A friend just opened 3 copies of Halo 3 Limited Edition and with all three copies both disc were loose inside of the package and scratched to death.
This Limited Edition has a piss poor plastic nub and foam pad disc holding design that is a major flaw and the discs pop off with ease.
Worse then the Prey Collectors Edition!!
If mine is like this I will keep returning it until I get one that is perfect and I think this will be almost impossible.
This is what you are going to see when you open your Halo 3 Limited Edition:
Both Discs Loose and floating around inside.

Get a new one from Microsoft. No use depleting a store's stock of Halo 3 by constantly returning opened copies. They just send it back to MS anyway.

well if he keeps going back to the store, he can continue to play the game. If he sends it to microsoft then there will be a wait period.

Where did he get them from? I got one at the Walmart by Lougheed and mine was fine, not sure if that helps.

Glad I didn't buy the Collectors edition. Waste of money anyways, I can just borrow the DVD's from my friends the ONE time I want to watch it.

for $10 more it's not that bad and if you don't know anyone that has it it's worth it IMO.
legendary, that's something else...

I was just about to post this. My extras DVD is fine but the game itself is scratched to hell. I am returning it tomorrow.

Just got back from Future Shop and they couldn't have been better about it. I mentioned I had heard of the problem and they acknowledged it, and said I could go through them until I found a good one. Found one with the game disc still secure (which is the important one), and the extras disc was loose, so the manager went back and found a perfect one from previously opened ones during the day. Even price matched at $69.99 to RCSS for me. Best price matching experience I've ever had and just plain over and above service.
As far as the LE's go and this whole debacle, it really is a shame MS let this happen and slip through the cracks...especially for a release like this.

the fatory workers probably never bothered to pop the disc into the middle plastic.

I had the guy at BBV shake a couple. The first one you could tell the contents inside were loose but the second sound okay. We opened the second and it was okay. He was pretty cool too since I had ordered the regular version and he gave me the limited edition instead for free :D

Got mine from BBV as well and my discs werent too scratched up. I mean a couple noticeable ones, but it has not affected gameplay at this point. Just the movies during the menu pauses are a little skippy at times. Oh well, if it gets worse I'll just go in and exchange, but I was more fortunate.

Copied and pasted word for word (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192476) from a neogaf.com forum that is full of Sony viral marketers? Hmmm... sounds like FUD to me:

How can it be FUD when myself and many others have badly scratched discs?
Many of us are neogaf'ers and crosspost to this board all the time once news from there appears that are significant enough to spread.

I was in line at BB, watch a guy go in and out at least 4 times, everytime with a scratched disk with the Limited edition. They may be nitpicky about how scratched it is, but it is there.

Full of Sony viral marketters? XD God you people are just plain idiots. If anything, Sony gets the most hate around there since they aren't performing to the standard that people expected after the PS2.

Never thought of that option. The FS I bought it from said I would have to wait for new stock so I just downgraded to the regular version. The extras were lame anyway and I don't really care about the tin case.

i did not get the limited edition, but my regular version had two scratches on it that wasnt letting me continue my campaign...it kept getting to the same spot and giving me a dirty disc error...so for anyone who has small scratches this is a way to get it to work...i used toothpaste (paste not gel) and i rubbed a small amount in a circular motion over the scratches...then i washed it off with warm water and dried it...scratches were 95% gone and disc played fine after...

i pre-ordered the Limited Edition back in August from Futureshop.ca and it arrived on launch date.
i can hear both discs moving around once i took the package out of the mail box. I haven't opened it since i got the Legendary Edition at the midnight launch so i am just going return the limited edition for a full refund.

Just when you thought the scratched discs are annoying, but you can replace it for free and be happy, I came across this "Disc Read Error" thread in the XBOX forums. Did anyone in here get this? I guess some money should me extracted from that big HALO 3 record sale to compensate for all this crap :D
Hmmm, seems like more sites are reporting on this problem. There is even a video link on TeamXbox

Bought my Halo LE yesterday at Future Shop, and ended up with the game disc having some scratches. Took it back today and they already know about the problem, and the one girl told the other one at customer service to expect a bunch of these to come back. They opened up a new one for me where the discs were still attached to the trays and weren't scratched.

I'm guessing these would be a pain in the ass to sell/trade later on if you had to ship it, unless you put in tons of bubble wrap or sleeved the discs to help secure them.

Or put some of those dvd spindle foam/plastic things to at least help push them in the cases.
