Not much of a deal here. It has been much cheaper before.

Looking at the specs, it looks like they threw in a faster processor. I remember last time i bought it, the processor was TK-53, not TK-55. Plus it was an 80Gig hard drive, not 120 Gig

It was $539 last time with the 120GB hard drive. But yeah, I think the CPU is slightly faster this time around.

Why is the TK-55 not listed on AMD site ? :?:

Actually this deal is logically same as last $499 deal.

upgrade 80G HD to 120G ---$40 more
upgrade tk53 to tk55 -------$30 more

So now $569, it is exactly same as last deal.

Well, its not longer a quality 'bargin' laptop no more

This price range has a lot of competition

This CPU is basically a turion.

Its a special renamed version for big companies (HP, dell)

Will standby for another deal at $499, cause would rather add $90 for an extra 1GB Ram than the previous $ 70 upgrades.

That's because AMD categorize it under the desktop page instead of the Notebook processor section.

I have done some research, surprisingly, there isn't much research available on the internet, i am suspecting this is just a desktop replacement processor

http://products.amd.com/en-us/NotebookCPUFilter.aspx

Looking at the page, they only have tk-53 at the moment. but there isn't much information about it as well.

however, for 599, what more can you ask for?

Wonder why they don't include Windows SP 2 in there, like in the Vostro.

The TK series are extremely cut down versions. if you notice the cache for example is less than half of their Turion line up.. for me this seems like they made these processors like intel made the dreaded celeron. they cut it down and hoping people wont notice the difference.

So I tried again and 2 reps said price was already discounted, finally the third rep is willing to leave it at $549, whatever, might as well take it cause I want XP and don't want to wait another month till XP promo again as Vista promo will probably kick back in in 2 weeks.

So it was $499 in August, but I got it at $549, with 120 HD and TK-55.

Weird thing is he sent me a quote by email, and asked me to reply. I usually get an order confirmation by email, but have not yet. However he gave me my order number, he sounded like a car salesman and like he was smokin some good Indian stuf, so will see what happens.

well...at this price tag, I doubt AMD or Dell would put in much of their top of the line parts. AMD is doing this to keep their market share and slim profit margin:)

One good thing I would pick Athlon X2 over the dreaded celly, is that, Athlon is dual core(smoother in multi-tasking), 64 bit ready, better processor architecture(integrated memory controller) and the system bundled with a ATI Radeon chip(better than those GMA)

I have a celly at work, such pain in the butt when doing multiple thing at the same time. If my boss asks about my productivity, don't blame on me, if you give me a dual core system, I could have done more

Did you read Intel's slogan "Dual-Core, Do More" hahahahaha

The artifacts on my other laptop (GMA) are infuriating
