Can you rent if you're 21 but have a G2 license?
If you want to add another driver, is it on a per day basis?
I see most companies give out UL KMs but restricted in Ontario or CA. Would they know if it was brought to the US?
Thanks.

If you have you're own liability insurance then yes they will rent to you.
Another driver is on a per day basis. (Should be either call and ask or just use their online calculator)
Tough to say whether they'll know or not I've heard stories in the US of how people have rented cars, took them across state lines and brought them back and then get nailed with massive out of state fees and they know because they install a hidden GPS unit in the car. Whether or not they do that here I'm not sure, maybe someone else can chime in but it's your risk to take.

I do have my own insurance but I rather not risk it. Can I not pay to get theirs?

Call your insurance company and find out if your policy also covers rental cars. Not all do. And your deductible probably applies, too.
Watch out for scratches and dings, because you won't want to make a claim through your own insurance for those. Make sure the car is inspected and all damage, no matter how minor, is recorded before and after you have the car.

They just need to see see that you do have your own insurance. You can still purchase theirs when you rent the vehicle, of course.

You need your own liability insurance. Liability insurance is different from collision insurance you get from them. Liability will cover you in case you hit someone and they get hurt or you're found at fault for the accident it would get charged to your insurance. The collision coverage you purchase from them just covers you in case you scratch/dent the car.

 You're correct about what liability and collision are but you don't need your own liability insurance at all. Take a look in the glove box of the next car you rent, the insurance liability card will be in there, in the name of the rental company. How else would anyone that didn't own a car ever rent one?

If you're under 25 you need your own liability insurance to rent a car. Over 25 you're golden. Atleast that's how I understand it and the experiences I've had.

Don't take the risk of taking the car to the states unless you inform them. You will find some of them are very leniant. If you go to the states and something happens they can turn around and give you some form of brech of contract crap. If your planning on taking it to the states go with a big company like Budget, they allow there vehicles to go to the states as long as you tell them without any extra charge plus if something does happen to the vehicle they will just bring you a new one.

So I do have to get liability from my own insurance? Must I inform my insurance company about renting a car then? Also how would I prove that I have insurance since I'm a secondary driver on my dad's policy?
So is there a difference in price for G2 vs. G holders?

Just bring your insurance slip, if you're a secondary driver it should have your name on it. You don't have to inform them of renting no.
There is no price difference between G2 & G.

Having worked at the rental company, you need a valid G license ... if you are 21-25, depending on which company, you will get charged an underage fee while some companies wont allow you to rent unless you are at least 23. On top of everything, you are limited to UP TO full size vehicles.

Ahh okay I get what you mean now. However I thought it was just an additional charge you had to pay, not that you also had to have your own insurance.
I don't really know because I was actually strangely lucky in this category. When I was younger, the minimum age for rentals kept going up as I got older, meaning I was always at the minimum age at most rental places regardless of the fact that it kept increasing.
I.e. When I was 21 most rental places had policies that 21 was the minimum age before surcharge. Same thing at 23 and same at 25. So I was always ahead of the game luckily. I never had any additional charges for rentals (and I had rented cars since I was like 20) and I've never had to necessarily have my own TPL/PD (though I always have I never had to prove it to a rental company except to prove I had collision which is separate anyway and required only to waive the additional coverage at some rental locations).

So I guess I won't be able to rent from the entreprise or hertz as I only have my G2.
Btw, my name is not on the insurance slip it only has the policy holder's name. I was pulled over once and everything was fine.

Your name is not on the insurance slip as you are not the primary policy holder, however, when the policy number is punched in by a cop for eg. you do come up under the policy.

I've rented cars before on G2 before without anyone giving it any second looks. There is an underage fee yes but a G2 shouldn't be an issue.
Either way I highly recommend you rent from Enterprise if you're under 25, they have the lowest underage fees that I've seen from a reputable rental company.
