Went with ClearlyContacts for Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism. 8 boxes total. Original list price was $474 (optometrist would have also been that). Price matched VisionDirect, and ended up paying $205. 56% savings! Awesome.

CSR was awesome, friendly, and knew exactly what the deal was.

Placed an order with Clearly Contacts for 8 boxes of Acuvue Oasys, price matched Vision Direct /w 20% off and free shipping coupon code. Got the exchange rate included in the calculation; it wasnt as much as what xe.com reported (147.94 USD = 141.61 CAD) however I assume thats based on the best rate possible which most places wont give. I cannot quibble over... tree fiddy~(ish)

So! In Canadian Dollars...
Normal pricing = $232.02
All in, after price match = $145.34
Saved = $86.68

Painless. 2 minute wait time to speak to a representative, 5 minutes to place the order. No fuss, polite rep, excellent price, extremely happy camper.

Pricematched visiondirect 20new code with clearlycontacts and got a 6 month supply of biofinity/biofinity toric for $75 all in. I had to pay for shipping. Saved close to $50!

Got my lenses today and got an interesting surprise- they threw in a sample box of contact lenses I've never heard of, "Splash". Looking on their site, it's only $17 regular price for a box and they don't appear to be the silicon hydrogel lenses I normally wear. I'm just a bit appalled they would send me lenses I've never tried and wouldn't even know if it fits. Last I checked, the fit of contact lenses is pretty important and they do vary between brands...

Thanks for this thread. Pricematched @ clearlycontacts from visiondirect for 8 boxes of acuvue oasys for astigmatism for just around $200. The sales rep on the other side was one of the nicest and most professional reps I've dealt with. Saved me over $253 =D, I'm smiling as I type this.

I completely agree. Did the same thing, had the same great experience, and saved $170 on 7 boxes of Acuvue Moist (90 packs) -- well and who knows how much more I saved compared to buying it from an optometrist. Huge thanks OP, great threads like this are the reason I keep coming back to RFD.

Does anyone else experience worse vision with contact lens (acuvue oasys) as opposed to glasses? I don't know.. just seems more blurry to me as opposed to how clear my glasses were (especially my near-sightedness, far sightedness is actually fine). It's not my prescription either.

Nope. I have better vision with contacts. Have you tried a different brand? Spoken to the lens dispener?

Ive used daily disposable acuvue and will now be switching to acuvue true eyes. They're fantastic.

Hm.. I was fitted over a month ago and my optometrist told me that for most people this is as good as it gets, so I just dealt with it. But it doesn't feel like normal people see this way to me. Maybe I should go back to her, although I don't know if it's too late or not..

I just ordered 2 boxes Aquacomfort Plus 90 dailies for total of $87.82. I could get it slightly cheaper if I order more but I only wear contacts on the weekends now so $43.91/box is pretty cheap to me and these will last me a while. I got them to use the 25% off code vision direct currently offers.

It's on their site and it's 25NEW. It's slightly better than the 20% off but our exchange rate isn't as strong as a couple weeks ago too so the extra 5% off covers the exchange rate reductions :D

I got paid confirmation email saying paid $299...
I just want to make sure I don't get stuck with $299 contacts.....

Should I go to store, buy a couple and try them out?

Find a contact lens specialist (or fitter). Talk to them, take their advice. Do not just try any old lens.
If you have a Costco card - go there and talk to them

You should go to a contact lens fitter and decide which best suit you. You glasses prescription is not the same as your contact prescription. I've found mine is .75 less for contacts...AND I drop another .75 on my non-dominant eye to enable me to read with them. You'll save money in the long run if you get fitted properly.

I've PM'd with them several times... You place the order and I think its the bill me option you select instead of paying right away.
Once they've invoiced you then you send them an email (or call i guess) to pricematch it and provide very thorough instructions on where you are pricematching.
Remember that they include anything and everything like shipping costs, conversion, etc in the pricematch.

The lowest CC price on my Vertex Toric contacts is something like $60 and Contact Lens King sells them for $25 I think.... With the 110% pricematch I've always been a very happy CC customer. :)

I actually go to the other sites and see what your order is going to come to using all coupon codes that work. Then call up clearly contacts and place the order. Let them know the site you are price matching against and the codes you are using. They will put you on hold while they verify the info by going to the website and entering the details. They will then give you 110% of the difference off and you dont have to worry about anything else. Easy peasy japaneasy

I actually just ordered the following at clearly contacts by price matching against visiondirect.com using the code 25new which is 25%off plus free shipping

8 Boxes of Focus Dailies 90 Pack
2 Boxes of Focus DAILIES AquaComfort Plus 30

I do have a Costco card - I went there today, and they do the contact lens fitting, however I have to buy the contact lens over there after the fitting, and they won't give me the copy of contact prescription, so I didn't go for it.

Is that normal? Or they just want to trick me to buy from them?

Your best bet if this is your first time trying contacts is to try them in a store. I once tried 4 different pairs (2 I threw out after 10 minutes of walking around with them because they weren't comfortable and 2 I wore for a week) before I came to the conclusion I liked my old brand best. They're called trial pairs for a reason and they're given to them for free so it's not like you're cheating them.

Once you find a pair you like you can either order a box for each eye directly from the store and hope that the sale price is good or you can grab the lens package when you try on the trials. All the info you need to order replacement lenses are on the package. Based on that and your prescription you should be good to go anywhere.

Of course most stores won't like that and some places charge a fitting fee so your mileage may vary. If you're unsure, order your first box from the store (Costco and Walmart are two of the cheapest big box stores for lens) and once those lens are used up buy your next set from Clearly Contacts as is suggested in this thread.

Good luck!

In my experience, some places make it difficult just to get a fitting. They want you to buy their lenses. Possibly they know at this point how easy (and way cheaper) it is to buy online once you have the prescription adjusted properly for contacts. There are two places where they did the fitting for me, but weren't pushy on buying their lenses -- one was Wal-Mart. I can't say if *all* Wal-Marts are like this, but mine was. The other was a relatively local place, which won't benefit you unless you're in the Okanagan in B.C. So I would suggest your local Wal-Mart.

What you can also do, by the way, is just write down the information about the lens. Each lens will come in its own little blister pack and that pack will have information on it with the various readings, like the power and the base curve (BC). Depending on the lens brand, the base curve can be the same for all the lenses. Also, if you have multifocal lenses, there's the ADD as well. This might be "Low" or "High" or might be an actual figure, depending on the brand of lens. Copy down what the blister pack says (once you find the best combination, of course). Make sure you record which is for right and which is for left so you know. That's all the information you need to buy them yourself. If you need to be covert to do it, then do that. Look at the blister packs when the fitter leaves the room or isn't watching you. Whatever works. And don't forget to write down the brand name, obviously. :-) You don't need a special prescription written down just for lenses to order lenses. You only need the information I indicated above.

The Hans

It's your presription, pretty sure they are legally obligated to provide YOUR information to you.

Didn't your actual optometrist provide you with a copy of your prescription?

How long does it take for CC to refund the difference on price matching? My credit card has been charged the regular CC amount and they emailed me the invoice at the pre-price match price. I've also already received the contacts (less than 24 hours!) but just wondering how long to wait for the refund?

UPDATE: Got my refund! Will definitely be purchasing from CC again!

Had a similar experience - they price matched visionsdirect and within 48 hours the contacts arrived. Their accounting department emailed the next morning with the PM and refund and both have appeared on the CC. There was a sample pair of sunglasses and a coupon for free glasses which was a great surprise.

Was in the contact lens ordering swing again today and found an even cheaper place than vision direct to pm with. Even with the 25NEW code my total with vision direct for 8 boxes of air optix came to 218.94USD, Clearly was $339.11CD.

Now, contactsexpress.ca with the CXNEW ($10 off and free shipping) came to $205.60.

OK, Just got my total order in. With the 10% pricematch. Looks like clearlycontacts in the policy has changed the pricematching down to 5%, but I found a spot in the help section that still stated it was 110% and she gave me the difference.

Anyways, end of the day, 8 boxes total after PM $185.04

Pretty decent

Compelte noob question:

Why would someone choose the disposable (daily) lenses over the monthly, or permanent ones?

What are the better contact lenses?

Are sports safe with contact lenses? E.g. snowboarding?

I buy daily lenses, because I only wear them when going out during the week ends. I typically finish my box of 90 Dailies in 7 to 9 months. As for snowboarding, I suggest you wear protectice goggles on top for extra protection. The lenses will also get dry really fast with all the wind on your face, so goggles will not only only protect you but also keep your eyes more comfortable.

I buy dailies but reuse them and wear them up to a week. I've read that weeklies and dailies were essentially made of the same material. So far so good, and it saves a lot of money.

You should get fitted by an optometrist. Your optometrist will decide which strength and type of lenses are best suited to you. I wear proclear compatibles since that is what I was fitted with years ago. As for prescription - my contact lenses are .75 less than my eyeglass prescription (-7 -6). Also, in my case, since I need bifocals for reading, and I can't read with my contact lenses, I drop another .75 on my non-dominant eye so that I can read.

+1. What about shipping? Do we have to pay that? If there is a duty there might be a brokerage fee depending who they use to ship.

It's medical so no duty (I've ordered glasses from the States and China - no issues)
As to shipping it's YMMV - usually they ship thru USPS - you can always request that when ordering. You could even request free shipping....

Where was that "spot in the help section that still stated it was 110%"; is it still there, thanks.

Hi guys,

I have never worn a contact lens before, but I really want to when I go on vacation in Cuba. I want to go snorkeling and scuba diving... but didn't prepare to buy a prescription mask in time. So this is really my last resort to get a few pairs of disposable contact lens express shipped.

My prescription is pretty high at -10.00. I have the prescription for my regular eye glasses, but it does not say what "Base Curve"... so what is the safest bet to go with? Lower number or higher?

Which brand is good for beginners? I am only wearing them for a few hours (or less) while I'm wearing a mask.

Thanks!!

Hi, I've been using contact lenses for more than 10 years.

I've used vial lenses, monthly, weekly ones from various brands, but I would like to get some feedback on the lenses that I haven't tried yet. Here's my review:

weekly
Acuvue 2 - comfortable when you put it in, doesn't dry out as much. Normal durability.

Acuvue Advance - Very comfortable when you put it in, but drys out after 3~4 hrs of wearing time. Not durable.
Acuvue Oasys - Very comfortable when you put it in, but drys out after 3~4 hrs of wearing time. Not durable.

O2 Optix - Not comfortable when you put it on, but doesn't dry out as much as Acuvue advance/oasys. Normal durability.

Frequency 55(Dia 14.2) - Not comfortable when you put it on, but doesn't dry out as much as Acuvue advance/oasys. Very durable.

I would like to get some feedback on:
proclear
biomedics
pure vision etc....

daysoft
Day & Night ones?? (are they comfortable and durable to justify the extra cost??)

Honestly, my best contact lens was one of the vial soft lens. It was very comfortable and durable. (1yr) I don't know why they are not making anymore....hence, the search continues....

I just received my contacts from Visiondirect.com today! Thanks for the coupon. That new customer discount let me save over $60 from clearly contacts quote.

Purchased 8 boxes of Acuvue Oasys.
My order took 24hours to ship, and 8 business days to arrive after that.

Highly recommend this site if your using the first timer coupon. With no coupon it comes to be the same price as Clearly Contacts so I'd suggest going there instead as I've ordered through them several times with zero problems...

:cheesygri

Do they require a prescription from a Optometrist??

What are the best contacts in term of comfort? I tried acuvue oasis for about a year (use to change them every 2-3 weeks). However the only time they would be comfortable would be when I take them out of the box, a few days later my eyes would burn and water when I put them in. (doctor said its a solution allergy) so I changed solutions, some were better than others but ultimately the same problem.

Would Dailies solve this problem?

Also as a new customer to any of these websites, which one should I use and what should I get?

Thanks in advance

personally i only wear dailies. for me it's the comfort (fresh pair each day) and the hygiene (cleaning solutions just doesn't do it for me). i've acuvues and now prefer acuvue TruEye.

you should try out some test pairs at your local optician to see which one suits you.

I PM'ed Coastal's prices with Clearly Contacts just this past this October. I phoned them up and they said yes. There was some kind of "fine print" involved, (like using another code was not allowed), but, yes, generally, you can PM.

called clearly contacts, told them i wanted to price match. gave them details (6 boxes of acuvue moist dailies 90 pack) and told them to go to visiondirect.com and apply the 25new coupon code. i waited a few minutes and the order was done, they price matched plus beat vd by 5%. they order at the original price first and then manually adjust the pricing the next day.

I purchased contacts from Coastal/Clearly but based on your post checked visiondirect and sure enough they were cheaper. Coastal's policy is supposed to be 30 days after purchase but tried to get their online agent to instruct me how to make a claim and they wouldn't do it.

Just give them a call (1-866-414-2326 - clearly contacts), I just got mine price matched today. The customer rep were not willing to honour the coupon at first, but i got her to check with her manager and she price matched it for me with no problems (with 5% difference). I guess she was new, kept apologizing for putting me on hold.

So I have been using Acuvue lens for a while but I find them pretty dry. I was thinking of switching to Air Optix. Problem is now I also have astigmatism. Since I have never had Air Optix lenses before I need a trial pair before I go out and buy a year's supply. I got a coupon from their website for a free trial pair and went to Ajax Costco but the guy said I had to buy two boxes to get a free trial pair...kinda dumb cause a box is $59.99 which is a 6month supply.

So question is, does anyone know where I can get a trial pair in the GTA no strings attached?

Have you got your trial yet? Where did you get the coupon from, the U.S site or the Canadian site? I would like to try these out as the Acuvue Oasys are not cutting it anymore. I could just order 4 boxes from Clearly but it would suck if they are worse then the oasys.

I just order 4 boxes of Air Optix Night & Day Aqua for 153.00. I priced matched with Visions and they gave me an extra 5% off.
I'm so excited! This is an excellent deal as I was paying 110.00 for 1 box.

I so glad I found this forum. Not only did a get a great deal on contacts, I'm also getting cheap magazines.

For some reason vision direct coupon code isn't working for me.
If I call clearly contacts will they match 25% off since it's listed on visions website?
Also has anyone ever had to return an unopened box? I have 1 box left and my prescription changed and I was given different lenses because the r/x is too high.

Yes, I called them as the code doesn't work on their website. The customer service I received from them was fantastic.

Is Vision Direct Acuvue Oasys more expensive now compared to a year ago ? I just PMed Clearly Contacts with the 25% off code for 8 boxes and was charged $150+ but I paid only $122 last year. The conversion rate was better last year but still it's $25+ more than I paid for the same items 10 months ago and the rep said it's due to inflation, blah, blah , blah ...

I asked Clearly for a price match and they said no problem, however they are charging me shipping. I guess Vision does not ship for free to Canada so they added something like $13 for shipping to the price. Is this accurate? Its still decent but I was just wondering if this is normal.

Thanks for your help

Vision Direct charges $9.99 shipping + $1.99 handling fee to Canada ($11.98) and it's on their web site under shipping. Clearly doesn't charge shipping for orders over $99 but they will add the $11.98 after the PMed price. I just paid $141.99 for 8 boxes of Acuvue Oasys yesterday.

clearlycontacts.ca $233.91 CAD

$141.99 is the total including Canadapost Express shipping, the official invoice I received shows $0.00 for tax. Didn't pay tax last year and the year before.

I ordered eight boxes of Oasys for Astigmatism for my wife today. The CC price was $410. After price matching Vision Direct, giving a 5% PM credit, and adjusting for shipping and exchange rates, the price dropped down to C$211 to be delivered next week. :)

a total noob here... please helppppp

1. so to get the best deal, do i need to CALL clearly contacts to price match with another website and they will lower the price by 5%? what about shipping and other fees? (Where can i find the best deal on other website?)

2. I have dry eyes and astigmatism (-1.0 & -1.5). I have been using biofinity toric (monthly) but it's not very comfortable, so I went to get a contact lens fitting: tried on Focus Dailies toric and Acuvue Oasys toric (which is more comfortable than focus dailies but still feel dry)... The optician said she won't try anymore lens on me cuz they will feel the same...Is that true or she just doesn't want to order more trial lenses? Anyone has any suggestions for contact lens comfortable for dry eyes w/ astigmatism?

Thankssss!!!!!

I started wearing contacts many years ago, at the time I was told I shouldn't even try since I have dry eye. Over the years I have tried many lenses ..the ones I wear now, and are quite comfortable (I only wear them 10 hours a day thou), are Proclear Compatibles. Maybe your lense fitter would let you try them..or better yet, find a new fitter.

You need to call clearly contacts and tell the associate the company you want to PM against (they are very familiar with Vision Direct) and they will give you VD's price + 5% difference. I placed an order not long ago and you could use it as a reference to see how clearly contacts come up with the PMed price. :)

Whats the cheapest canadian based store? I need a couple boxes today as my supply ran out and I don't even have any for the day. I want to PM walmart, but they wont accept coastal contacts or those sites since they're US based, and I don't believe Clearly Contacts regular price is much cheaper.

Or is there an actual local store in scarborough / pickering where I can pick them up for a decent price?
