also according to Sharp, the filter should be replaced every 2 years... if you want to take taht into yoru consideration of filter cost.

how quiet is the purifier? I have the Environizer and I find it a bit noisy for a purifier.
It looks like its all sold out for ISPU within the GTA

ordered one for ISPU, does anyone know how this compares to the Honeywell permenant filter ones?? cause walmart has a honeywell permenant filter for 99.99 and a non permenant for 59.99

Dead silent. Even on high they're damn quiet. Fantastic machines. Highly recommended.
Warning though, these are VERY effective fart detectors. I've embarassed more than a few guests trying to get away with a discreet tootle or two in my company. There's no escaping the glowing blue light of truth.
This is a hot hot HOT deal. I picked up two of these at The Bay last winter for this price, but they were last-ones, forgotten-under-a-rock-get-rid-of-them clearance prices. Was going to buy more as presents but haven't found them at the same price until now.

I have the older model of this sharp and it works well for cleaning the air in the bedroom, and we needed to buy a new filter, but this whole new purifier is only $10 more than buying a filter alone. Good deal.

I have bought the big one and medium one for my condo. the big one sits in living room, medium one sits in bedroom.
i have just now bought this little one for office den.
i love them and highly recommend them. even if just to reduce dusting on surfaces. (although u still have to dust eventually).
I can tell you my spouse and I get a flu shot every year, and never get sick period all year round. dont know if its the plasmaclusters or not, but we know we do not get sick.
also no mold in our house even the occasional damp clothes etc do not get smelly.
needless to say this small one i jsut bought at this nice price is the third one in my <1000 sq foot condo.
I also bought a medium one for my parents, and have just tacked on another 2 small ones at this price. total of 6 units so far i have purchased.
by the way the medium one and the large ones xxx-45 and xxx-60 are also on sale 100 off. clearly not as killer as this deal, but decent. if you are buying your first unit, i would go for one of the bigger ones. especially if u will be cleaning a large living room or kitchen.
ditto on all air quality changes including farts and cooking smells.

i don't think the small purifier is a good deal. The filters last up to two years. where as for the largest unit ($300), the filters last up to five years. of course factoring in the replacement cost of the filters for the largest unit being more expensive, it still works out cheaper because they are only twice as much but last more than twice as long.

Maybe increased ozone levels in your home have this effect. There are no regulations on "air purifiers". These ozone generators will produce poorer air quality than if you had no "purifier". Here is an excerpt from the US E.P.A. site.
Are Ozone Generators Effective in Controlling Indoor Air Pollution?
Available scientific evidence shows that at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone has little potential to remove indoor air contaminants.

If you really need an air purifier ( most people don't) then get one that uses a hepa filter system.

Okay then, the Sharp is fine because it's also HEPA rated.

I believe the model that is on sale at FS is an ionic "purifier" with a hepa filter added.
Plasmacluster Ion Technology: Works to keep air clean and pure, it utilizes a positive & negative ion shower to seek out airborne contaminants, the ion accumulate on the surface of the contaminant and trigger a natural chemical reaction that removes hydrogen from the contaminant rendering it inactivated.
This is the kind of bunk that puts snake oil salesmen to shame.

Some people may ask why then would the government allow such a device to be sold to consumers? Because it's not regulated? The Wiki reference should be the definitive answer to your question(s). I've made my decision thanks to it.

Here are some concerns I brought up in the past. I didn't see any indepent lab test or study on Sharp purifier, so these are only my concerns and not conclusions. So make your judgement accordingly.

Here are some reviews on the Sharp purifier. Granted the reviews are for the higher models FPR45, 65, but it should still give those interested a general idea of how well the FPR30 would work.

http://www.air-purifier-power.com/sharp-plasmacluster-fp-r65cx.html
http://www.air-purifier-power.com/sharp-plasmacluster-fpr45cx.html
I own both the 30 and the 45 and can say that it's definitely made an improvement in the basement where I spend most of my time.
My dad did some basement renovations on his own and after he had finished I was constantly dealing with respiratory and sinus problems and I suspected it was due to dust particulates left over from his work, I put both these models into the basment and have noticed a significant reduction in dust and my sinus/respiratory problems.
I also like to fart in front of the sensors to see how quick the blue light turns on. Those things are krazy quick at detecting gas.

Quoted from the review provided by you:
"1. First do no harm; minimal out gassing, no ozone.
Score: 7 of 10, still unsure if plasmacluster oxidants are safe. "

I did my research and read as much as I could find before making my purchase decision. That site I linked with reviews, seemed genuine to me with regards to information on air purifiers.
I only give others the opportunity to read for themselves and make their own judgments, and provide my own personal feedback, which others should know you take anything other people say with a grain of salt.
It's fine if you are skeptical about the validity behind the Sharp Purifier mentioned in this thread and its fine that you post your concerns and post relevant information to where your concerns are founded, but I do not think it was necessary for you outright accuse me of what I posted.

I don't think it's definitive. Sharp and Sharper Image products are not the same and I don't see any reference to the ineffectiveness of the Sharp units in that Wiki entry. I have a choice to cancel my order, but my anecdotal experience says they do provide cleaner air

Sharp and SharperImage are not the same but both are base on similar technology.
Check my links in my post in page 3, especially this one.
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5173773#post5173773
The Sharp Purifier will definitely provide cleaner air because it is a HEPA air filter. The Hydroxyl Radial purification process will help deactive the gems but also increase the ozone level of the room. Ozone is a known indoor allergen but if the unit is operated properly, the ozone level should be relatively small. Now it is up to you to decide whether there is enough benefit to outweight the risk yourself.

I just picked one up at FS in Orleans. Online stock said they had none, but I never trust that so I called and they had 5. Price rings up at cash for $149.99, but I showed a printout of the web page so they gave it to me for the $99.99.
Plugged it in at home without reading instructions (typical male I guess) and forgot to take the two filters out of the bags inside the unit...dohhh...it seems to work nicely now that they are out of their bags :o
The unit looks awesome, much bigger than I imagined, but in the manual it says it does a LOT automatically, like determine the room's air quality and then it purifies/cleans it accordingly...we'll have to see. I hope it makes the bedroom a bit better for my wife's allergies.
I see the unit has mixed opinions, but I will give it a shot and see what happens.

I am miffed....picked up my two Sharps yesterday. Got them home, went to unpack, unit #1 is totally OPEN BOX....all that was in the box was the unit...no remote, no manual...NO FILTERS!!!
I call the store to see if they have another...no, they tell me to call Mavis...ugh...call Mavis, they won't take it back b/c they didn't sell it..>WTF??
I took it back to Brampton (another ugh) and got a refund. I am stunned that they don't check the items completely when they are returned!!! Someone got a free set of expensive filters!! pfft!
Rant over!
