It looks like fast food restaurants are starting to make some really good coffee to get a portion of the caffeine business.

I'm surprised at how good McDonald's coffee is and now Wendy's has a great gourmet coffee too. My favorite used to be Starbucks but now I head over to McD's for theirs (a muffin is only 22 cents with a coffee btw).

So which is your favorite?

Mcdonalds doesnt really taste like coffee, but havent tried it in a long time.
Timmies is what I usually grab just cuz its everywhere, cheap, taste alrite and quick with a drivethru as well.
Starbucks, cant afford it on a daily basis and gotta make it right yourself.

Timothey's dark roast is a treat for me. I can't be bothered with Starbuck's nor the bland Tim Horton's (except roll-up time).

i always get Timmie's half hot chocolate, half coffee. It's midly sweet and chocolatey and yet has a nice caffeine taste. i've yet to find others that do this combo (and for a cheap price) and hence why I stick to Tim Horton's.

I have at least one Starbucks Grande Dark Roast every day. When I first tried Starbucks, I found it to be bitter and way too strong, but now everything tastes like water.

Starbucks Anniversary Blend is easily my favorite coffee of all time.

I just returned from Australia and boy that's a place where they know how to make coffee. The only place that had a pot of coffee was McDs, everyone else had those big machines that made expresso, capps, etc, including gas stations and fast food joints. The price was a little steeper but it was sooo much better, aww for a "long black" right now, better than a americano from Starbucks. I haven't had the stomach for a timmys since I have came back.

Generally I make my own (french press) but if I have to choose a franchise store coffee, it would probably be Starbucks' bold coffee.

But then again, it's not that hard to find good non chain coffee shops or smaller franchise coffee shops (i.e. Balzac's, Bridgehead, etc).

On another rant, how come Canadian owned Second Cup's large coffee is more expensive than Starbucks these days?

Tim Hortons is good for a cheap fast coffee but its bland. I usually get a half coffee/half hot chocolate with dbl cream
Starbucks is good, but its more robust and stronger (even the mild) which some people do not like.
McDonalds coffee is slightly better than Tim Hortons.
I prefer french press coffee but I am too lazy to grind the beans, make the coffee, etc so I just grab a cheap Timmies :P

Consumers Report did a blind taste test this past spring (in Canada as well as in the US) and surprisingly, MacDonalds won. I can't remember what month that was but it surprised me until I went and got a coffee at MacDonalds. They changed their coffee and it ain't so bad.
I have to say though, that I seem to be one of the few Canadians not addicted to Tim Hortons. Ever get into an discussion about coffee with a Timmie addict? Whew, brutal

Tim Horton's vs Starbucks or Second cup is like comparing a big mac to a nice steak. Cheap, covered in crap to mask the lack of taste...and preferred by the young. Now, if you grew up with the crap that many of us did in the late 70's and early 80's then Tim's is a step up from that...otherwise, get a nice espresso maker and new drink Tim's again.

Starbucks brings to mind yuppies to me, so I'm not fond of it.
All we have in Midland, except for a few independent places, is Tim Hortons.
They are fine 90% of the time; the other 10% of the time, they give you the bottom of the pot.

7-11 and mcdonalds coffee are both really good.

my fav is second cup's paradiso medium blend.

tim hortons coffee is too weak for my taste. i cant stand starbucks. timothy's is alright.

i usually go to mcdonalds because its convenient and you can get a muffin and coffee for a cheap price. if im near a 711, ill get a coffee from them and an jumbo oatmeal cookie. if i feel like treating myself, ill get a coffee from second cup with their everything cookie with my SPC card.:)

If McDonald's coffee doesn't taste right, just tell them and they'll brew another pot for you. I've done that. No problem.

I used to be a Starbucks junkee with a loaded card but no more. I can't stand the noise of the grinder going all the time, the crowds in their small cafes and the people who use Starbucks as their home office. They take off their coats using up 2-3 chairs, lay out all their books plus laptop and squat there for 3 hours. I even saw a teenager meet his tutor in the cafe once. I guess it's where they meet for his lesson every week. Taking up lots of room for an hour.

And the pretentious jazz music playing with the grinder in the background doesn't help.

McD's not bad but always way to hot to drink immediately.

When people say Starbucks is expensive, they are referring to some
Mocha-Latte-Frappuchino-Cappuccino-Vanilla-Soy-Chocolate-Cinnamon-(insert more flavours here) Grande drink.

The plain coffee @ bucks isn't expensive at all, considering the higher level of quality you get compared to a Timmy's, plus the store feels more comfortable and the staff (I've found) to be friendlier.

I don't have a real preference, but I am starting to prefer Starbucks, just based on their level of SERVICE.
Tim Hortons has given me some some TERRIBLE service recently, and I am becoming a little less of a fan.
Just one small example: If your bill comes to $2.91, the cashier will stand there with his/her hand out waiting for you to find another penny, even if there is a long line up. Starbucks will say "don't worry about it".

Do you insist on staying on-site, finishing your coffee, then leaving?
