This seems like a crazy hot deal from Dell.... this is like the same price as Staples clearance specials.

Pricing error?

If you were going to get this, I would take a good, hard look at the Staples deals - I think you might be better off. The price of RAM is low enough that you can pretty much get the same machine with a faster processor from Staples.

pretty hot deal, but i really don't get why they need to add "English" for the processor description (as opposed to French?)

This has dual core X2 4000 CPU as well. Staples PCs don't match that. I mean look here at this Xpilio for comparison:

AMD 3500+ PC, Was $347, then $297, just took $100 off, now $197.

512MB
160 SATA
DVD Dual layer
Gigabit Lan
V92 modem
Nvidia Geforce 6100
Vista Basic
1 yr warranty

You're going to have to upgrade RAM, CPU, and hard drive to match the dell PC. That's going to cost more than $200. And you aren't going to have 1 year on site warranty.

Slower CPU. More ram. Double hd. Diff graphic card. Not a bad config for entry level. Price may be better as it gets closer to X'mas.

I'm quite sure on the Dell site that if you choose the 250GB HD instead of the 160, you'll come up to the same price of $389 for this AMD config. Now, the only difference is CPU versus the extra 1GB of RAM. If this is going to be a pc for the normal internet surfer, I'd go for the extra RAM deal. If plans are for more intense computing, I'd go for the Intel chip and upgrade RAM later if required.

My two cents.....:cheesygri

I think developers should go to Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E4500

Gamers go to AMD.

There is no PC there you could upgrade to the same HD, RAM, and CPU specs as this and be under $400.

If her son is addicted to world of warcraft, don't buy him a new PC. Hope that he'll lose his addiction to that game. Games like that degenerate a person and leave people without much of a mind but just alive hanging there.

^^^^^^ this is very very tru, coming from a teenager.. wow destroys lives.. i never played it because i know how addictive it can be... i was addicted to cs(counter strike---> online shooting game) and d2, i would often skip school when my parents werent at home 2 play.... altho it didnt damage my grade.. it was a bit trouble some on relationship with the teachers lol. and wow is like 10000000X worse then those games.

btw.. is this good for gaming..? like if i wanna run the newer games like crysis, or needfor speed prostreet, etc

OK, well, I guess he's not "addicted" in that sense... he really likes it but his mom makes sure he plays it responsibly. Anyways, now that the Intel deal is dead, would THIS AMD PC run WoW without any problems or upgrades?

Their prices on hardware are outrageous. Here are there prices... you can get the whole system at ncix for like $220 minus the operating system.

They want like $300 for a 6000+ cpu...

This PC will be better than the Intel one for WoW based on the better GPU and more RAM. Still might want to buy a video card for $80-100 like 2600XT or 8500GT.

Very hot deal thx for the post!!

I agree. I was ready to buy the other Dell deal that ended quickly earlier today, but this one doesn;t get me going. I've seen similar systems & prices to this at Staples recently. I want something from Dell that will be a true HOT deal, not mediocre. Thanks for keeping me up to date though RFD!

What components would make up the $220 less the o/s? From what i can gather the intel dell deal was pretty solid...the CPU alone is $140 on NCIX. Even the AMD deal i find it difficult to come up with the components that would make up $220

Intel AMD
cpu 139 83
ram 45 90
mobo 60 60
case +PSU 55 55
HD 60 80
Sub Total 359 368

mouse 10 10
dvd 25 25
KB 10 10

where can you pick up at 2600XT gddr4 for 80-100 bucks?

the 2600xt add on by dell is the gddr4, not the gddr3 (which is 20-40 cheaper)?

thanks!

Agree on the "more ram", but is the same HDD. I bought one from the last deal (4400+) and it came with a 250GB HDD.

no word on the psu still?

edit:
Just did some searching on Dell's site and it says that it comes with a 300w power supply, but theres an option for a 8600gt which requires a 350w power supply? Whose right?

Honestly for me the psu will be the real deal killer. After I buy the $389 model I'd have to get a NEW PSU and a new gfx card too. :/
