View Full Version : DDR vs DDR2 ram affects Windows Vista Performance?

I'm thinking of buying a used laptop to carry me through the rest of the school year. Assuming I want to run windows vista, I was wondering whether it would make any difference performance-wise getting a laptop that usese DDR2 as opposed to DDR RAM.

It seems logical that since Vista is extremely RAM-intensive, requiring upwards of 2 Gb to function, having faster RAM should make a significant difference. Does anybody have any opinions on this?

Won't make a difference.... Well the difference would be negligible... But the major difference would be that DDR is more expensive than DDR2.

Capacity will make a far greater difference than speed in this case.

There shouldn't be any noticeable differences.

Great, thanks a lot for your replies. Clearly this is a very one-sided issue :)

DDR2 runs at higher frequencies but also incur higher latencies, so it's basically a wash.

However, DDR2 does indicate that the CPU/chipset is newer and probably faster than a laptop that uses DDR1.
