Hot! Free Wi-Fi at Toronto Public Libraries

The following Toronto Public Libraries effective immediately will have access to Wi-Fi. This is definitely a new thing because I was using the library in the summer and it clearly did not have Wi-Fi access!
Users of the wireless Internet service are bound by the terms of Toronto Public Library's Rules of Conduct and Internet Use Policy.Users will not be directed to the wireless network unless they agree to these terms and conditions.

The Library's wireless access points are unsecured connections to the Internet. The Library is not responsible for data transmitted or loss of information over the wireless network. Users should be aware that third parties may be able to obtain information about users' activities when using the wireless service to connect to the Internet. The Library assumes no responsibility for the security and privacy of on-line transactions.
I wonder, are you allowed to bring in your own laptop and plug it into the wall socket so you can have unlimited power? Also anyone do a speedtest on the wifi yet? any limits and stuff?

Just too bad this would only work during library hours, unless you have tons of spare batteries.

I wonder if they actually shut the connection when the library is closed for the day.

50kb downloading on torrents?? Is that a "consistent" rate or is that just the max rate you experienced, because thats not bad at all.

Don't be lame guys. If you're using a free service from the library, don't hog the bandwidth downloading torrents since there may be people that are using the Internet for legit research purposes. If this free service gets abused, the library will no doubt pull the plug on it.

Just my two cents.

Mmm, I agree. There isn't a limit on how long you can stay on, but there is a limit on how many people can access the network at the same time. That being the case, don't stay on all day, downloading movies and whatnot, and blocking those who actually need it.
