View Full Version : Does your car have heated seats?

Sorry, the second option is supposed to say "No" I mistakenly put a 'p' instead of 'o'

Want to get an idea of how many people have heated seats.

Our OLD ('91?) Accord SE had heated seats... talk about comfortable! Neither of our newer ones have it though.

(not the heated seat cushions, I'm talking about real heated seats)

Does your car have heated seats? also, what car?

Most luxury packages for newer cars have the heated seats, such as the Honda Oddyssey Touring, Ram x500 with Laramie, and most BMW's have them too.

My car doesn't have them but I actually dislike them quite a bit. I find them to get uncomfortable quite quickly, even at low settings. On a very cold day, in cars that do have them (e.g. friends' cars) I may put it on for like 2-3 mins and then I have to shut it off. A friend of mine that used to have a VW with the 1-6 scroll heat used to just turn up both seats to 6 anytime I was in there in the winter and I'd be like "dude what the heck are you doing?! Leave my seat alone!"

When I used to work handling new vehicles I would often put them on but then you were working outside in the winter so any heat you could get on those short drives moving cars around, was good. In real-world driving I don't really like them.

My bmw had them, my current honda doesn't. Don't care for them to be honest. Since the bmw was leather it was better than nothing. One thing i didn't like though, unless you are sitting in the car they didn't turn on. When i'd let my car run in the winter i'd put the seats on so they warm up as well, however it wasn't the case. Have to sit in it for it to activate.

I'd much rather have cloth seats than leather seats with heating. :)

Plopping down in ice cold seats on a winter morning is never a nice feeling.

Not a big fan of heated seat until I rented a ES350 for a road trip a couple of months ago which have both heat/cool seat, IMO it worked great during the long road trip. It was so comfortable to have it on when it was cool at night for the long drive and worked surprisingly well to cool down the seat during the day too.

There's no difference in the temperature of the seats, leather or cloth. If it's -20 outside both the leather seat and the cloth seat will be at -20. The only thing is leather conducts the heat out of you more effectively than cloth, which is why it feels "ice cold" compared to the cloth seat ;)

It's amazing that this feature isn't more common.

It's strange that some cars have this and other "higher" vehicles don't. Like I remember this was an option on the Nissan Maxima (even the Maxima a generation older had a heated wheel/shifter option IIRC). But on a G35 or 350Z? Nowhere to be found. I think that it was an optoin on the M35/45 but I can't remember.

I don't really remember any BMWs or Audis having it either. (Though in many of these cars you couldn't actually activate some of the heating features while the cars were in plant/transport mode so it could have been coincident with the seat heater controls.) Nevertheless I don't really recall seeing any Benz, Bimmer, or Audi with a switch for a heated wheel.

The thing about a heating element is it is relatively high current, and with a steering wheel you'd have to wire it through the clockspring on the wheel. If you've ever seen how most clocksprings are, they have like a ribbon cable to carry electrical signals through. Fine for low-current devices like airbag triggers, and radio controls, but a heating element is a little higher demand. Perhaps that's the reason it's not on more cars. Certainly possible since there are cars that have it, but just a thought.

that's pretty much what i do but for a slightly different reason. the seat heater is the fastest thing that warms me up on a cold day so i also turn that on whenever i get into my car. but i turn it off after a few minutes of driving since the car's heater will kick in by then and keep me warm.

Both cars I've ever owned had them. My 1993 Honda Prelude SR-V used to have them, and my current BMW '90 325i has them as well.

BMW, Benz, Audi all have heated steering wheel. It' just not in their lower end model. So it's availabe on the 5 series, E Class, and A6 or above. I think they should apply it to all their cars. I'd happily pay $$ to get that feature.

You're probably right, I just never really saw the button or switch for it (again unless it's coupled to seat heater controls). I was driving cars from the entry level all the way up to the flagship including S-Classes, A8s and even the Alpina B7 (which I remember having inflatable pillow headrests, lol, but never really recall a heated wheel).

The heated wheel though I'd agree--I'd much rather have that than heated seats :)

You're misinformed on this one. Majority of these cars have heated steering wheels (based on model availability, not sales units). The heated steering wheel "switch" is generally located on the left side of the steering wheel. Some of the old models requires you to "pull" the light switch, some of the newer models is simply a switch on its own; different across different models.

Wrong.. not all bmw's have them.

I think heated steering wheels arent more common because it could be more of a hazard... something goes wrong and the temp goes way too high and you cant touch the steering wheel without burning your hands while driving, that would be scary.

Some cars with heated seats built into them have had problems with fires already. You can google that if you want.

He did say that the lower end model's don't have it (I think it is an option on 3 series though). I do know that the newer 5's and 7's do have heated steering wheels, and it is the best feature in the winter hands down. The heated seats in BMW's are very fast at heating up and have 6 settings. It's still nice to have :D The heated steering wheel is more of just a warming steering wheel, if it got too hot, your hands would sweat, and that wouldn't be good while steering if you hands were slippery from sweat.

You're misinformed on this one.

I'm misinformed? Really???

I'm misinformed that I don't recall/remember something in my own memory? I'm misinformed that someone else is probably right that there were heated wheels and I just didn't notice or find the control for it?

Because if you read what I wrote that's exactly what I said. I said he's probably right, there were heated wheels but I just don't remember using them or finding switches for them. Unless I'm senile and/or have Alzimers or something I don't think I'm misinformed about my own memory ;)

It's nice that you pointed out where the controls may be, (I already said I could have missed them); but trust me I'm not misinformed about what I remember doing and not doing.

Most G35s will have it; I believe the base models won't but who would want to buy a 50k sports car then cheap out on for 1k package for the sunroof & some craptacular Blose Audio, haha. The heated steering wheel would be awseome.

The reason why the Maxima has alot more topped out features than the G; was originally Nissan/Infiniti was hoping to produce the I35 (Maxima) as a luxury sedan where as the G would be a sports sedan. It ended up just showing that people would prefer a car with crappier options and less luxuries to have a RWD entry luxury level vehicle. The I35 has some pretty cool features like a rear powered sunshade, cluster gauge displays everything about your trip, better layout, bigger chromer wheels, etc. Same they killed it; couldve competed more with the Acura TSX.

I have found them useful for when I have to run the defoggers and deicers; keeps me realitvely warm (not sure but I think most heat seaters warm up the whole seat so even the back and sides of the seat will be warmed) while my car warms up. On the Accord they were a bit stupid though; by the time I had the car heated up; the heated seats would finally be heated. On a BMW they heat up in around 1 minute; quickest I have seen so far haha.

On the 5th gen Prelude the seat warmer tends to take a bit of time to warm up, roughly by the time the engine is warmed up do I begin to feel the heat coming from the seat. I do like the mirror warmers, but find it to be an extra I could live without as the mirrors rarely freeze over with ice.

Always hated leather seats, ice-cold in winter, burning hot in summer (had a acura with dark navy blue leather seats, never again!).

I don't understand why people would pay for them, maybe my whole family are a bunch of weirdos but that "leather seats aren't any more comfortable than cloth, if not usually worse" is one of the few statements both the wife and kids actually agree with me.

Heated seats are on pretty much most cars now. The real question is which cars have rear heated seats. The Audi's have them as an option. I'd like to know other models that have them either as standard or optional.
