I doubt I would even pay $5 for this. My cell phone alarm is more useful.

This is probably the only Sony product that does not contain any proprietary design ...
Always know what time it is. The Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio has a 0.9" green LED display, which is easily viewable from across the room, but takes up very little space on your nightstand. It hosts a number of features including automatic time set, automatic Daylight Savings Time adjustment, built-in calendar, AM/FM tuner and full power memory back up. The correct EST (Eastern Standard Time) has been preset at the factory, so just plug the clock in and adjust the time zone as necessary. In the case of a power interruption, the built-in Lithium battery maintains the correct time so when the power returns you don't have to re-set the clock.

If they'll pricematch RCSS, it might be $19.99 there. I bought it at RCSS when it was half price.

It's not clear in the description, but this is an atomic clock. Great price for one too.

I dont think this is a true "Atomic Clock" which picks up the US Atomic time signal from Boulder Colorado and sets itself to syncronize its time from 2 to 6 times per day for ultimate time-keeping accuracy.
This Sony clock basically has a built-in factory programmed time/calender and time/date memory is maintained by the lithium battery built in.
There is no mention on any websites I researched that sell this clock radio that it is an "Atomic Self-Setting Clock", or that it has the Atomic Time Signal AM receiver/antenna built in.

They have this alarm clock at Walmart. My understanding is they will pricematch the other price.

You're right. No idea where I read it was atomic... time for sleep.

I bought this one for about $14 at HBC a while back. It's not atomic set since it just has a battery that maintains the time from the factory. It did the daylight change fine, and it's a good basic alarm clock. The only bad thing is that the small dial to set the alarm setting to on is really flimsy and small so it's hard to tell if it's set right. You have to be careful to dial it in correctly. A small dot appears when the alarm is set so it's not a biggy. For $8, it's a great deal!

Just a cautionary note - this model might be okay, since it says you don't have to re-set the time if the power goes out, but earlier 'dreammachines' would not keep accurate track of time when the power was out nor give any indication it had been running on battery power if the AC did come back, so you'd end up with the wrong time without necessarily realizing it and - get this - Sony called it a 'feature' that saved you from the blinking 12:00 and from the alarm not going off in the morning (!!!)... you were supposed to notice your dreammachine was showing a slightly different time from other clocks/was not blinking 12:00 when other clocks were... good thing I only paid $10 for mine...:|

The built in battery in this clock pretty well keeps it locked onto the factory time. I haven't even figured out a way to adjust it at all even though there are buttons present to do so. There was a power failure a while back, and when the electricity came back on, the time was fine. In fact, I use this Sony clock to help synchronise all my other clocks since you know it's going to be accurate.
I think it operates on the same way computers do with their internal battery that keeps the CMOS clock going even when the computer isn't plugged in. It might be best to check out the clock at the store before since I'm not sure I would have bought it if I knew the settings dial was so bad.
