my GF is a manager at a Danier leather store in the GTA, and told me a funny story that made me think of RFD.
someone came into the store with a receipt for a 200$ leather jacket bought in mid-December. he was asking for a price-match because if he had bought the jacket now, he would save 1% less due to the reduced GST.
we're not talking a big-ticket item such as a car, or a piece of property.. we're takling a 200$ jacket. this dude wanted 2$ back.
so my GF told him the only way to do it was for him to bring in the jacket, and the tag still had to be on it, and to return it, and re-buy it. sure enough, the guy left, spent who knows how much on gas + time, and came back and returned it and re-bought it.. to save 2$..
i know we're all trying to save a buck, but this seems a bit extreme.
thoughts?

wow are you serious!?!? thats pretty extreme man and all for only $2... can't be an rfder or else like you said he would have factored in the gas + time lol oh man xD

well considering if everybody did this. how much of an impact it would have against the store. but people dont because stores make it hard and people like you ridicule those who attempt to save money.

Correction, *TWO* drinks! lmao
That guy must've felt like he accomplished something by saving $2. He made the effort, so whatever makes him happy...

Maybe he didn't want that $2 to go to the stupid government ;)

RFD needs to open a rehab for deal addicts. This is not healthy.

That's not RFD, that's just stup!dity.
Obviously the person is not doing the math ... nor is there a "principle" involved here ... you bought the jacket early.
If you would have waited until January for the 1% = $2 difference, maybe they would not have your size and the colour, nor would the jacket be in the same condition.
My time is more valuable than that.

it wouldnt have much impact on the store, cause it's GST.. just affects amount to remit to the government.. the store might have more to do in refunds/exchange, thats all

i did this coincidentially. I bought a jacket just over $200 bucks at sporting life, and i went in to exchange it for a different colour couple days ago, I was suprised when the cashier told me I could get 2 bucks back. lol

This guy still had the tag on the jacket? Thats weird, there would have been plenty of opportunities to test out his coat since mid december, wasn't exactly warm.
The guy could have had a metropass and too much time on his hands. There's some BORED people out there.

Yeh... some people where just born dumb and no amount of parental cuddling or schooling could help them out.
Different story if he had the jacket and wanted to exchange for something different.
Its like the drivers who complain about gas prices and will drive around wasting gas just to save 1-3 cents per liter (which amounts to about $1-2 for a full tank of gas) not realizing they probably wasted 2-3 liters of gas ($2-3) driving around.

nothing wrong with this, if the stores return policy allows it. The guy might have lived or worked nearby and it may not have been out of the way for him to come back.

i think this was one smart dude, his time is probably not worth much, and he may have a metropass or might need to come back for errands.
I myself factor in gas cost when doing price comparisons of different stores in my area, sometimes just cheaper to have things mailed to u rather than pay for gas...
