Hey guys,
Is there a process I need to follow when switching family doctors?
I've been with my GP for a good number of years even though I very rarely needed to see her. Over the last year I have started to lose confident in her and would like to find a new GP.
Are there forms I need to fill-out etc? whats the process?
I tried looking on the Ministry of Health website but was unable find any info.
I'm sure someone on here has switched GP's before and can provide some info.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If you can find a new GP they will look after the paper work for you its part of the service.

Thanks for the quick response Wally.
So I don't need to tell my current GP? Basically all I have to do is find a new GP that is accepting patients and tell him/her I am transferring over?

Good luck with the task of actually finding a doc taking new patients. And if you do be aware that some won't take you if you have complex issues or currently have a family doc.

Agree! You and I both live in what are considered rural areas, and it's even more difficult for us! Our little town now has three walk in clinics and most people don't get the chance at a new GP!
