Silly question for someone who has lived in Toronto for the last 12 years, but is physical exam covered under OHIP? Are you only allowed one per year? What tests are involved? Should i expect any 'uncomfortable probes'? :cheesygri

Has always been pretty healthy. The last time i went to see my family doctor was 4 years ago. But I've just turned 30 recently, and thought maybe i should start taking better care of myself.

Physicals are covered under OHIP except when part of a pre-employment medical. No uncomfortable probes until 40 generally, YMMV on this one though.

The most important thing is to start getting a history of blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Especially when a family history is present.

An annual full checkup is only covered by OHIP once a year. When I call my doctor for an annual physical, they always review my file to see if it is more than a year ago. This also applies to seniors.

Usually involves look in ears and eyes, some pounding on abdomen, blood pressure, blood tests for cholesterol and diabetes, prostrate problems, pap smear and breast examination if requested.
