For the past couple of years during school, I rarely worked part time and when I did, it was usually only for a short period of time or I worked at the family business. The jobs I did attend during the last few years, either were too long ago or the manager no longer works there providing me with next to no usable references.
Now that I'm trying to find a job and have interviews lined up, I won't have anyone I can refer to. What would you do in my situation?

what are you takign in school? You can use your professors as references. Sucker up to a lot of them, ask questions, get to know them.

Professors will do...or the head in your school, your dean perhaps..

I'd just give them your parents since you worked with the family business. I personally hate giving references, With every job I've had, its a pain in the ass to get ahold of them, odds are the company wont be able to get ahold of them either since they have more important things to do than sit at their desk and talk to someone in HR, and if someone was so inclined, references can be faked with about as much effort as it takes to compile honest ones. Give them your parents, and if they call you on it tell them its all you have. While I agree a prof will do, in my opinion its virtue is purely for its space filling. Like how much can a prof really know about you? "He hands his assignments in on time and participates in class so yah, I think he'd be good at selling consumer products to retailers"

most places have HR that can confirm employment and the terms of your departure (fired, or quit on good terms).

As mentioned earlier, professors make good references. Have you done any volunteer work? You really need something to get an interview.

As mentioned earlier, professors make good references. Have you done any volunteer work? You really need some type of experience to get an interview. A resume with only education isn't going to get you very far.
