The Source does not price match anymore (they used to). You may find a sales associate willing to fluctuate the price a little more, but I doubt it.

This is a really nice power bar. I think I'll keep the one I got...can use it right now, plus no need to wait for shipping and deal with some of the dumb courier guys I've dealt with lately.

I don't think it boosts cable and phone, but it will protect your phone and tv/cable boxes. Surges can travel from cable and phone lines as well.

I have Starchoice as well.. When I put my dryer on, I can see interference when watching HD channels.

I'm assuming this will fix that issue?

Would I run the source coax into this unit and then out to my HD Receiver?

The reviews have all been glowing about this unit, the only negatives I've heard is it's so bloody big.

these higher end surge/filters come with substantially less warranty than the ones just down from it. These silver ones only have a 3yr warranty as opposed to the black ones that come with a LIFETIME warranty. The black ones that can be found for ~$20 have "PFT power filtering technology" as well, just probably not to the extent these silver ones have. For the additional infinite warranty, I'd stick with the lower level power filtering because quite honestly, you're not going to notice a difference.

Lifetime warranty on these as well. Right on the package.

I have the black one too. But this is much nicer design-wise...and maybe I'm imagining things...but my SD channels look a bit clearer (can notice any small difference on my 106" screen)....and no noise when I switch the vacuum cleaner on :).

It only has a tiny bit more joules of protection.

And line filtration is useless with digital signals.

Since when did electricity become digital? It filters out noise from the electrical lines. Like someone mentioned, when you plug in a high power appliance, or hair dryer..etc It will disrupt the power to your HT (Think of an iron making the lights flicker). Also, noise can interfere with your receivers and such and sometimes picks things up like radio signals and for some reason they will come out of your system.

I am not sure what the big deal is about surge protectors. As long as they have reasonable levels of joule protection, a proper layout for plugs, and decent build quality, that's about it.

I rather put my hardware on UPS' with AVR and not have to worry about surge/spikes. You are more likely to have brownouts (low power situations) then spikes and surges (high power situations). In brownouts, surge protectors are pretty much useless, unless you consider line conditioners.

That's what I do. Considering the MSRP of these home theatre surge protector, it's cheaper and better to get a UPS with AVR (automatic voltage regulation). They give protection against surges, brownouts, and blackouts.

One last thing, be careful about the claimed warranties for surge protectors and UPS. It's much harder to claim for the damaged equipment then advertised.

+1.

$29 is a good deal for a solid power bar, but $49 and up is getting into UPS territory. Not many people here have had lightning hit their house, but everybody has had a power failure.

+2 I picked up a couple of the APC UPS's from TSCC when they were half-price (24.99). Both have gone off since Xmas - on the same day but at different times (weird, no?) - but none of the surge protectors around the house did. The one at FD is the older F9G1033-12.

The F9G manual are dated 2002 while the F9A manual are dated 2004.

F9G ..... http://belkin.httpsvc.vitalstreamcdn.com/belkin_vitalstream_com/support/dl/fg1033-12.pdf

F9A .....

I picked up 2 1000VA smart ups systems for 35 bucks each ;) (refurbed of course but they do the job).

Got one for my HT and one for my main rig and server. Have had them kick in a few times this past year and tested voltage comming out is exactly 120V (vs 118 or so coming out of the wall ;)) My HT one is powering my sattelite receiver, my htpc and a 50" plasma :P (plasma of course calibrated properly and not bright as hell, when it was set bright it was overloading the ups which would just blink a light that indicates that it is overloaded and when checking the voltage comming out it was exactly the same as the wall soo be sure if you get a UPS that is does not overload the ups else it renders it useless in terms of AVR)

I live in a relatively new house (2 years old) and it does have its share of spikes, I can only imagine older house with crappier wiring.

Ditto....

and if you are getting a power bar, the most important thing for it to have is either an alarm, (or some just stop working completely), when they have absorbed a surge or spike that has rendered them useless. (A light is iffy as they are usually in a place that is not visible...besides, how often would you check it?)

Otherwise, how do you know if it is still doing it's job?

Factory Direct in Mississauga has a whole bunch of these on a rack near the back of the store. Build quality is as good as everyone says. The cord is a LOT longer than I would have ever imagined or expected. Including a short coax cable was a nice touch as well.

Overall very pleased with the purchase providing protection, more outlets and at first glance it seems to have also removed some minor ground loop interference from my satellite/cable coax connections. I'll have to check it more carefully tmw when my eyes are more rested.

One thing to watch out for - the packaging is a ***** to remove. Be careful not to cut yourself when opening.

Those power bars with filters should help attenuate the high frequency line noise to an extent, but ground current ... I am not so sure, better check your ground connection and eliminate different ground potential, beside safety, an added benefit will be a good common 0V reference.

Well the concealed feature is interesting, not bad for $30 I guess, but I just ordered 2 of the regular belkin 12 outlet model for $20 each. (see post #3)
I returned the pureAV to the source, not worth $50 to me. Ive run my projector and surround system for 2 years off a regular surge protector, no "line conditioning."
