Satellite Installtion Help

I have installed a couple FTA setups in my time although i am having trouble with my own. I moved into a new (to me) house and installed a 4 lnb elliptical dish and got myself a Viewsat Pro reciever. No matter what i do, i cannot for the life of me get any signal.

I am at the point where i just want it to work so wondering if anyone has any leads on someone who can help me get my installtion working or at least pinpoint the problem (it probably will turn out that I am just an idiot :razz: )

The dish is installed on the roof and the wiring installed so it would just be troubleshooting. I just dont have the tools to test what could be wrong.

Anyone know of any shops that would be able to send someone out to figure out whats wrong? I am in oakville.

I helped a friend set one up... They are not the best solution, as I found the signals from the super dish quite weak in comparison to two separate elliptical dishes. I assume you are trying to get 82, 91, 110 and 119? Bring a TV with you when you are installing and attach it to your FTA receiver so that you can use it as a sat finder. Line up the LNB's on the bracket with the exact degree spacing. If you are standing behind the dish, 119 will be on the left side (opposite to where it is in the sky), 82 will be on the right... With all 4 LNB's on the bracket, find 119 first (harder to find) and then find 82 to by changing the dish's horizontal access do this with out your switch attached. Play around with the dish's position until you get both satellites as well as you can. When those line up, you should get 91 and 110 automatically. Finally adjust the LNB positions on the bracket to fine tune your signal. Let me know if you have any more questions...

Check with the guy you bought the FTA from. He will have 2-3 contacts that he can give you who do installations.

If you DIY, get a signal meter. They are only like $10. It makes dish pointing so much easier.

1. Check the LNBs are in the right spots on the holder. There are 5 slots (82,91,empty=101, 110, 119)
2. Remove your diseq switch and run direct coax to the 110 LNB
3. Peak the signal on 110 LNB
4. Connect the coax to the 119 LNB
5. Skew the dish (rotate on angle) and maximize the signal on the 119 LNB
6. Check the signal on the 82 and 91 LNB
7. Tweak for the best level on all 4 LNBs
8. Install the Diseq switch and configure

I am going to try taking out the switch and trying for one dish at a time. Who knows, maybe its the switch or i have the settings wrong on the box.

Also, just curious, my bracket has 4 spaces on it (91,101,110,119), i didnt know you can actually get one that picks up 82 as well. Not that it matters much, I really am only concerned with 110 and 119

Might be dumb, but are you sure your coax is rated for satellite signals?

BTW, I haven't played with a Viewsat Pro much, but a "trick" that most people with Viewsat Platnium and Extreme receivers miss is that all the transponders on 110 and 119 are not active.

When you go to thge Viewsat signal meter, the default transponder might not be an active one and you'll get 0 signal level. You must manually switch to an active transponder.

An alternative is to use the 91 for aiming, where most of the transponders are active.

Yes, there are ones with 5 LNB slots 82,91,101,110,119. It's mainly for people who want foreign language or HD programming

Yea, i know about the transponder frequencies. I got bit by that once before, readjusting forever to only realize i was on the wrong frequency :)
