Acts Of Love On Valentine’s Day

I was sound asleep when my alarm clock awoke me on a very cold Valentine's Day. I was still very sleepy, so I hit the snooze button on the alarm. I then decided to spend an extra ten minutes under my warm goose filled duvet, but I soon heard the clanging sound of pots and pans coming from the kitchen, and that made me realize that I had to get out of bed and that I had to get dressed to go to school. I could hear my mother rummaging and gathering the plates and cutlery in the kitchen, and I could soon smell the wonderful aroma of bacon and eggs travel throughout the house. I soon dragged myself out of bed and I went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I got out of the shower, and I put a cozy robe on. I then put the radio on, and I started to get dressed. The radio was playing an old song by Phil Collins called: “Another Day In Paradise.” I listened to the words of the song, and I felt sad because the song addresses the problems of poverty and homelessness throughout the world, and it encourages people to be kind and caring towards people who are less fortunate. The song made me appreciate everything that I had in my life, and it made me realize how lucky I was to have a home and a caring family.

After I got dressed, I rushed down to the kitchen where my mother greeted me. She wished me a Happy Valentine’s Day, and I wished her one in return. I then hugged and kissed her, and I told her that I loved her. I handed her a soft teddy bear and a box of truffles, and she thanked me for the present. I told her that I loved her very much, and that I appreciated everything that she did for me. She then kissed me and she told me that she loved me too. I sat down at the kitchen table with my mother and we enjoyed breakfast together. I noticed that there were roses on the kitchen table, and my mom explained that she had bought the roses for me, and she then told me that she thought I was as beautiful as a blooming bouquet of roses. I thanked her for her kind and poetic words, and I told her that I loved the flowers.

After I ate breakfast, it was time for me to go to school. I put on my winter coat and scarf, and I left the house. I arrived at school early, so I decided to go buy a coffee at a local café. I purchased an Irish Cream coffee, and I then left the coffee shop. I was just about to cross the street, when I saw a homeless person sitting on the corner of the street. He was holding an empty coffee cup and he was asking people for spare change. The homeless man did not have a winter jacket on and he was shivering from the cold temperature outside. He looked very tired, and he was emaciated. I remembered the Phil Collins song that I had heard earlier that morning, and I took out all of my change that I had in my pockets and I put it in his cup. He smiled at me, and he thanked me. I then pulled out ten dollars from my jacket pocket, and I handed it to him. I wished him a Happy Valentine's Day, and I encouraged him to go buy something to eat. He smiled at me once again, and he arose off of the sidewalk. He said that I had a soft heart and that he appreciated my kindness. He wished me a Happy Valentine's day, and he then began to walk slowly towards the coffee shop.

I went home after school that day, and I told my mother about the homeless man that I had encountered on the street. I explained to her that the man was hungry and cold, and that I had given him some money. My mom smiled at me, and she told me that she was very proud of me for doing a good deed. She also said that the universe always needed caring and kind people to make the world a better place. She then opened the box of truffles that I had given her, and she offered me some chocolate. We ate the box of truffles together, and we washed it down with some warm coffee. It’s definitely a Valentine's Day I'll always remember. :)
