I can't seem to find them anywhere: EB Games, Walmart and Futureshop don't carry the "madcatz universal componet video" (I've heard they exist, EB Games confirmed that they used to carry them but now I can't even find them on MadCatz website).

Any idea where to get them beside paying 70$ from Nintendo??

I've also read somewhere in the newsgroups that you can make your own component video cables by modifying the composite video cables. Any idea how to do that? I couldn't find any info...

Thanks!

bump ... was looking for this too now that I'm getting a new TV soon .. :D

Seems it's still cheaper to buy direct from Nintendo .. so I placed my preorder just now ... says it will be in stock June 2005. So I'm hoping. Anyone else preorder this? How long have you been waiting?

That's $29.90 US or $39.95 CDN + $5 ground shipping. Wow .. that's $51.70 for a single cable! So very expensive.

Still cheaper than buying from the import sites or on eBay though at least ..

I'm gonna preorder it as well... I'll update with any status. BTW... damn cable almost cost as much as the console! $80 I paid for my GC.

You know you don't actually *need* real component cables. You can just use the regular RCA cable (the one with yellow/red/white input jacks) and it'll work just fine if you want to save the money from buying high quality component cable. It uses the same jacks, so these will work fine if you are on a budget.

Proprietary Digital AV connector on the gamecube that prevents us from just 'jacking' like on an A/V reciever.

I'm not sure what this connector on the GameCube is that you are refering to - as I don't own one myself. Anyway I thought he was asking for just the regular component cables in which this case the regular rca type cables would work fine.

EDIT: just saw your posted links - i see how it looks like now. :D
Man that's awful, forcing owners to buy a specific cable that will work on their console!

I've seen this particular cable a few times while on ebay but did not really paid any attention to them. Anyway, is gaming on a 51" crt ok with the tv set? I mean it's not going to damage the tv in the long run?

I spent a lot of time looking for component cables for the GameCube awhile ago, couldn't find them anywhere whatsoever except Nintendo's site. You may want to go with S-Video, the quality is still immensely superioer to the composite ones.

I got the aforementioned S-Video cord for $2 brand new, it's a BIG difference. I'll never use RCA for any video gaming ever again...

I know this sounds crazy, but why not just wait until the next console comes out and get *that*? Revolution's supposed to be shown at E3 this year & is backwards compatible... why spend $80 on a cable that will be obsolete in a few years?

If it's in your budget you may still want to consider getting the component cable for the Game Cube because it will give you a very much higher resolution over what s-video can do hands down. I mentioned the RCA cable because I thought he was looking for just plain component cable. As it turns out he's not, lol. Anyways, but I do agree with you that s-video is way better than the RCA video as it does offer more lines of resolution - and hey, it only costed you 2 bucks!! :D

yup, especially when the new Zelda comes out later this year. Along with my new TV (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/showthread.php?t=160139), I want the best gaming experience possible! :D

The S-video cable you mention .. how did you get it for $2? Don't you need the console specific kind? So that one end plugs into the Gamecube?

Hmm, can't find the component...I think Monster sells them for each console, but only X-Box/PS2 ones were in stock wherever I looked.

I don't play my Cube enough or have a large enough screen to get a component cable, considering my current finances... :-0

It was a GameCube only cable from a lesser known manufacturer (starts with P, can't recall the name) that I picked up from CompuCentre.

It was the last one in stock, but you can probably find either that or the $10 Mad Catz variety at any electronics store; they should come pretty cheap, either way. Compared to RCA, it's still a worthwhile difference if you can't get/afford component.

I sold my cube because it looked absolutely horrible on my 50" DLP without component... I still think Nintendo is ******** to remove the capability on newer cubes. Not to mention not make the cables more readily available
