I just got this plan add on. I previously had no text message plan, and my text messaging bills were adding up to $10 dollars, so i said, why dont i just get a $10 plan then text "unlimitedly". So i called into bell to get the unlimited txt plan for $10 a month, which i know my sister has, but they dont offer it anymore, but they were still willing to give me the $10 for unlimited deal. but the CSR told me that they juswt had a new promotional plan for $5 500 txt and 50 pic/vid msg. I looked on my bill and found out i barely use 150 text messages a month, so this looked pretty decent. Saved myself $5 and now i can video and picture msg, which is pretty fun, if the recieving party can recieve the msgs.
So you're not completly right about bell not telling you that there is this plan, because they did tell me about it when i was trying to order text plans.
overall i think its a good deal. now with my unlimited mobile web, for $12 over my $20 plan, i have basically everything for $32/month (no system access etc, i get it waived)

Rogers has just added a similar plan. Not too shabby considering their other text plan is $6 for only 125 messages and no pic/vid messages included.
Cheers,

Ummm bell is crappy for not telling you about it... or are people too lazy to look it up themselves??
On the bell website:

Price: $5.00 /month
A great way to keep in touch when it's not convenient to talk
Save over 93% per month on text messages and over 80% per month on picture and video messages, compared to paying for each message individually at 15¢/message or $0.50/picture message and $0.75/video message.

This new bell plan is to match rogers $5 pack with 500 txt/ 50 picture/vid messages. Yes, there is still a $6 txt pack with 125, but the $5 pack is where its at. It came out Feb 5 of this year. Call in and get it switched. It also comes with 3 months unlimited txting when you add it to your account for the first time.

Text messages are such a ripoff. The amount of data in a 1 minute conversation is more then 1000 text messages.

I don't see the $5 pack on the Rogers website. Can you send me the link?

It should show up in your online account where you update wireless essentials.
Anyway, I also called them up a week or two ago to add this on, and got the 3 months unlimited sms/mms :)

Most incoming messages are free and there are no long distance charges.
So what incoming messages are not free?
Does Bell charge for incoming pic/video messages?
Also, what happens after May 31? Do you get to keep this feature?

Is this a normal price, or will the price go up when the offer ends?
I'd hate to sign up and on June 1st, and then watch the price double.
I have the $10 plan, but notice I'm not actively texting anymore, so I might just switch to this. Which reminds me, I need to get a new update for my phone.

Totally agree. Another Canadian cell market cash grab.
The CRTC really is useless...

Thanks OP! I was on the 75 txt msg plan for $5. Now I'm boosted to 500!
FYI: you need a data plan for the 50 pic/video otherwise it's pay per use.
I have a 6700 smartphone, so the data requirement may not apply to all phones.
