since the smart car is pretty small i was wondering if there were any specifications to the maximum recommended height for the driver.

and how much does a smart car cost? what is the price range?

I am 6'5 and own a 2006 Smart pulse and Love it! I would recommend you surf over to clubsmartcar.com for all the info you need to know about the Smart Car. From people that actually own and like them.:D

Get the Cabriolet and you won't have to worry :P

I am 6'4 and have plenty of headroom when I drive my fathers Fortwo Passion Cabriolet (Diesel, not the lame gasser's they have now).

Anyways, Which version are you looking at? You can get an older Pure for a reasonable price, or you can go up to the Passion Cabriolet which will cost you a bit more. Do you want a gasser or diesel?

I'm almost 6' and I've have sat in them many times, and have driven one before and I have to say despite its size there is plenty of room inside them.

We're moving, so we'll probably be selling ours. So yes, people sell their smart cars.

I've been looking into picking one up ($1.50 gas by Summer, so they say...).

The 2008 is supposedly much better than the previous model. Bigger, more stable, more power (14 seconds to 60mph, as opposed to 19 seconds. LOL!).

I don't think it makes much sense to buy used. The prices are obscene. Once you factor in the $2000 rebate on a new Smart, the price of a used unit is difficult to justify.

so after looking on line the actual website for smart car canada, kind of confusing but it says the car is 0.8L but says nothing of it being a gas or a diesel.
but doing some more searching the 1.0L engine is the gas powered one?? is that correct?????

but it seems that canada only offers the .8 L version??

If I had the option, I'd get the roadster.

They don't make the diesel versions any more, supposedly its due to some conflict with new emissions laws or something (heard it from the benz dealer) and so that they can sell them in the US.

All new 2008 are gassers, they are bigger and more peppier, but they aren't as fuel efficient as the CDI (some people have hit 100mpg in the older smarts).
Here is a link about the 2008's regarding fuel economy and such. http://www.wheels.ca/article/32992

Environmental responsibility? Well, current Canadian Smart car owners can continue to feel smug because their cars, powered by a three-cylinder turbodiesel engine, get much better fuel economy (city 4.6 L/100 km, highway 3.7 L/100 km) than the Mitsubishi-built 1.0 L three-cylinder gasoline engine that powers this new Smart (5.9 and 4.8 respectively).

That is quite a drop in fuel economy. I drive a diesel one around 120km a day during my commute, all highway, and I am getting around 4.3L-4.7L/100KM mainly because its winter, diesel engines like it when its warm, so I get it down to about 3.8L/100KM in the summer.

My one complaint about the diesel versions is that it takes quite a bit to get the clutch to engage, needs a better gearbox.

so all previous models (prior to 2008) are diesel or did they have the option to be diesel or gas,

Or are you talking about the beatle?

Maybe I'll meet my dream woman one day and she will also happen to be a VW/Audi mechanic? Possible but unlikely.

so all previous models (prior to 2008) are diesel or did they have the option to be diesel or gas,

In Canada, all 2004-2007 have been diesel with no option of gas, not sure about europe though.

But we need the Smart Roadster here, or at least the ForFour

+1 for the Smart ForFour

Smart ForFour will never happen as that was supposed to be a joint venture with Mitsubishi. For some reason, the joint venture dissolved... :(

I would have loved to see a ForFour here. My fav part of the Toronto Autoshow is always going to the Transport Canada Booth and see what cars they are "evaluating."

Is it just me or does that thing look like a Miata with a Precidia front end? LOL.

3cyl turbo? Jokes. So that is the convertible version of the Turbo Firefly I guess hahaha.

If it's built anything like a Firefly, it's certainly a deathtrap--the sheet metal on those things was paper thin.

PS: Don't buy a "Smart" car, it's a bad idea, a very bad idea.
