Hey RFD,

I was wondering if you know of any places where I can get 35mm scanned in high quality?

I would like a resolution of 3000x5000 or greater if possible.

So far I've been to London Drugs, and they do an alright job but its not great. I find the quality to be grainy and 'washed out'. Maybe thats a problem with the film. They're 4 months past expiry but I heard its not a big deal.

I just loaded my camera with new film that has been sitting in the fridge so that should be a little better.

Any places which you guys know that is good?

BTW. I'm from Saskatoon, but I feel free to list a store that you think might only be in your city. Maybe they have one here too!

Thanks!

Although I can't recommend a place that does a good job, I can steer you away from a place that does a bad job - Black's Photography. Walked in and asked for 8 negatives to be scanned. They said $2 each which is pretty hefty but I really needed it. They offered to do it in .TIF or .JPG. I asked for .TIF. I also asked how long it would take to get done and they said 3 days. 3 days pass, no call. I decide to give them the weekend and call them back. They say it's done. Ok, then why no call when they said they would? Drop in to pick it up and there's an additional $4 charge on top of the hefty $2/negative charge. Nobody told me this when I asked how much it would cost. Whatever, just pay it and get the F out of there. Get home and load up the CD...they're all in .JPG and for the icing on the cake...they look like garbage. Very grainy and obviously no colour correction as it's heavy on the green.

So lesson to be learned, if you want it done right, do it yourself. Next time I need negatives scanned, I'm going to buy a negative scanner. Apparently, they're not too expensive.

In Toronto you can rent 35mm film scanners. Price is reasonable and speed is ok if you have a fast desktop. Craigslist in your area may be selling old Nikons, those are ok too.

If you have time always do it yourself. If you have more than 150 slides or negatives then buy your own scanner - not those HP consumers sanners
