Heres an abstract from my assignment:

I just cannot think of a good, interesting and original topic
Any ideas for a topic?
Whats in right now in the Medical Field?
I'm trying to think of something not too general, but with enough info around to write a decent size paper.

Thanks

The subject of your paper can be a particular illness (HIV/AIDS, cancers etc), life cycle event involving health issues (childbirth, adolescence, menopause, death etc), culture-bound syndrome (nervios, susto etc), bodily practice with health consequences (female genital mutilation), psychosocial issue (PTSD, well-being), healing ritual (spirit possession), health issues among a specific population (Pakstani refugees, Mayan immigrants) etc. You can, of course, choose to write about biomedicine and particular biomedical technologies (imaging technologies, new surgical practices (organ transplants); you can also chose to write about other medical system (Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese traditional medicine etc). You may discuss the topic with reference to one society/culture in particular, or you may take a broader approach (look at a similar illness/belief/practice in more than one culture -- (eg How menopause manifests itself in different cultures?).

:-0 You need an idea for your essay??! Geez, your prof has already given you at least 30 ideas right there. Just pick something you are interested in and go from there. Who cares what's "in" ??

You should write about Alternative medicine. And Marijuana. With LSD therapy. All those things. Talk about how Terrorism is also ruining medicine, and why the Bush Administration cares nothing about his own health care plan for the States.
