no catch, read it in the toronto star today.
limited number of seats will be $1 (as I read now, free).
Max will be around $75. They are entering the market and trying to grab some share from greyhound.

Yeah, I saw this too...

12 hour bus ride though... Man, not sure if I could handle it. I guess it depends on what time you depart, what time you have to be awake for customs, and what time you arrive in NYC. If you could manage to sleep both ways it would be okay I guess

The other interesting part (mentioned in the Metro at least) was that the buses will have "free video entertainment" and wifi, which is pretty impressive.

Site might be down, but Megabus doesn't "arrive" in Toronto until May 30 anyhow.

Man, that's cheaper than stuffing myself in an envelop and surface mail to the states :)

N.Y.C. by bus for $1
Coach company betting on budget travellers

When Megabus pulls into Toronto on May 30, it will boast one-way fares to New York City for as little as $1 (plus a 50 cent booking fee) in a bid to whip up interest for the 10-hour road trip.

Megabus typically offers a handful of $1 seats on each trip to early bookers and then charges higher prices as the date of travel approaches.

Dale Moser, the president and chief operating officer of Megabus, said the last-minute, walk-up fare from Toronto to New York was about $85, and that there were no hidden charges.

Megabus will also offer service from Toronto to Buffalo, with Coach Canada.

The company relies almost exclusively on the Internet for bookings and keeps costs down by avoiding the use of brick and mortar terminals. In Toronto, Megabus passengers will be picked up on York Street beside the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Megabus is also hoping to change people’s perceptions of bus travel by offering guaranteed seating, as well as free video entertainment and Wi-Fi service onboard.

I got 4 into Buffalo but I don`t know if I should stay over night in Buffalo - bus says it should be there at 11:15 but with border traffic it might be later - and the return bus is at 4:30 which is somewhat cutting it short 4 hour shopping trip

I am going to bounce the bus to Buffalo and switch to Bus to New York fly back via Porter on the ride back - 10 hours is too long for me.

WOW free entertainment and WI-FI service, now this sounds really interesting.

I can still look for deals on redflagdeals.com on the 12 hour bus ride to New York. Hopefully they have outlets to recharge my laptop...

I got the "WorldPay CARD transaction Confirmation" after purchasing my tickets... but the e-mail says:

"This confirmation only indicates that your transaction has been processed successfully. It does not indicate that your order has been accepted. It is the responsibility of Coach USA Inc to confirm that your order has been accepted, and to deliver any goods or services you have ordered."

To those who have already bought tix... do you receive ANOTHER e-mail from Coach Canada?

Too long a ride for me. Riding the bus to NY a few years ago has got to be one of my least favourite 22+ hours I've had in recent memory. Couldn't sleep much at all, too much noise and movement all around. I guess it would be different/I would be more entertained if I was with a bunch of friends but there were only a few of us.

If you're traveling to New York, accommodation is still pretty costly.
Nice to save a bit on the bus though.

if it's a free bus-ride, might be worth doing the bussing thing rather than driving down, customs etc. on my own...but is it far/hard to get from the buffalo bus station to all the shopping?

The Walden Galleria is only 4km from Buffalo Airport, which is where Megabus will be stopping in Buffalo.

If anything... go on a vacation RFD style. Depart at 9pm, arrive at 7am in Penn Station, depart at 9pm, arrive at 7am in Union Station. That would be an interesting short trip that is very cheap.

runamuck
